Coronavirus and Second Life

Social Distancing

Here I am, doing my part practicing social distancing in both lives!

Earlier this week, Linden Lab posted about coronavirus and how it would affect Second Life operations. According to their post, most of the staff is already remote, therefore, business as usual at the lab. This is good news for all of the current residents that will be home more during the COVID-19 quarantine.

With the reduction of work hours and loss of income for many Second Life residents, I think we will see more private regions going offline in the coming months. I propose helping residents with reduced tier and/or waived transfer fees on one region for a limited time. This would help so many residents and show that the lab does care. When it comes time to paying RL rent or SL tier, I think residents will choose RL rent. The transfer cost is prohibitive, especially on grandfathered regions. Even though they just reduced the transfer fee from $600US to $300US, it has always been a ridiculous price.

Is the coronavirus having an impact on you in Second Life? Let me know in the comments!
