Today I will show you two ways to wear the Veranica outfit by Apple May Designs. I looooove this outfit, it’s so slutty but you can totally make it sweet. Here I am wearing the LoveAffair hair by Rac, now known as Laqroki. My mini-trunk is a gift from :sey, still available as of today. The pearls are by Fallingwater Cellador, and it’s a freebie at the Gnubie store. Have you been to the Gnubie store lately? It has been rebuilt and updated with tons of new goodies. Everybody likes free stuff 😛
I’m really quite proper looking as a brunette, but I looooooooooooove being blonde! So, I took off my top and wore just the skirt and suspenders and decided that was to be my outfit for the day.
So there you have it. The Veranica outfit can be worn 2 ways, slightly skanky and very skanky 🙂
The person responsible for the mural in this painting is MALT, an artist from Detroit who does beautiful paintings around town and abroad. I recognized this picture because the irl version is located at an art park not far from me (scroll down to the last picture), and his style is recognizable just about anywhere.
I am not the first Detroiter to be active in the grid. Detroit Techno Militia was here once too. I’ve seen Niagara‘s work for sale at Tart Gallery, I’ve seen tons of great art in galleries that said they were used with permission, but I always had a funny feeling about it. Something was always off.
So when I recognize a fellow painter’s work in the game, especially if they’re a local artist, I contact the artist to let them know what’s going on. Sometimes they have actually given permission to have their work for sale or used in the grid, but many times they don’t even know their work is being used at all.
This practice is especially troubling when it comes to to hi-res photos like the one in the picture. I can tell it’s of a good quality. Whoever uploaded the texture either took a picture of this themselves, or ripped off a hi-resolution photo of the mural.
Many people still don’t understand this rule about art in Second Life, so let’s be clear:
YOU CAN’T UPLOAD ART/TEXTURES TO THE GRID WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE PERMISSION TO.
You can’t just “take art” from Google searches and use them on tshirts and clothing.
You can’t use Disney movies on mesh versions of a VHS tape for c88 because you think it’s quirky and cute and that Disney has “enough money”.
You can’t upload books you didn’t author that aren’t public domain because “you think all creative work should be open source”.
You can’t demand to be talked to privately about this in order to prevent a public discussion. Get over yourself.
The sim this belongs to is filled with art that is both corporate (I saw an ad for Levi’s on the other side of the wall in the photo), and from other art that is so varied, it couldn’t possibly be all sourced with permission. I won’t link to them because it would encourage visits or possibly even hate–but I have contacted the muralist to tell him where his art is being used.
It’s not snitching, it’s what happens when other artists are tired of seeing work abused in Second Life and want it to stop. The grid should be a place to foster creativity and inspire others, not to deposit work you’ve taken from others.

You know when you’re looking at an AI-edited Second Life photo, right? You have eyes. You know that hair doesn’t really look like that, the surroundings are way too realistic, or something is just slightly off. Not quite Second Life. It’s above what Second Life is capable of. I think Second Life looks amazing now, but I rezzed during the system Ruth avatar era. I remember what we used to look like.
Many Second Life brands are now marketing to us, the residents, with flawless AI-edited photos, but they’re not being honest about it. They want you to think they’re just amazing at photography/editing and that you too can achieve that look if you buy their products. AI editing is basically the same thing as 3D rendered ads at this point. It’s just too good to be raw Second Life.
I have an amazing computer, and it frustrates me sometimes when I can’t render images that look that good. But I’m not against AI editing at all, since I can’t be deceived, but maybe someone new to SL may be. What amuses me is that whenever a resident posts an AI-edited photo for fun, fellow residents attack them, but when brands do it, nobody says anything. I was telling my friend that residents go after each other, and especially bloggers, because attacking us has no consequences. They don’t dare confront their favorite brands for fear of the brand’s fans attacking them back, or the brands themselves responding.
All of this to say, I was happily surprised when I was scrolling X (Twitter) and came across this prompt post by Sopha Portal, the designer of MudSkin. She also posted the raw image from Second Life so you could compare what is SL and what is AI-enhanced. I used her prompt exactly as it was written to generate a similar image. I love it. Have you noticed all the amazing backlit photos in SL lately with beautiful glowing hair? They’re probably using AI. It takes two seconds.

I edited the prompt a little and made another image, this time with a city background and changed the colors to blue. These were created using raw images I took in SL for a previous blog post. I’m very comfortable with the fact that I can take a great raw SL photo, and I have no problem using AI when I want to, just for fun.
I wish SL residents would leave people alone if they want to use AI, and before they try to shame someone for it, realize that many of their favorite brands are already doing the exact same thing. At the end of the day, I don’t think people are actually mad about AI. They just pick and choose who they’re comfortable criticizing.

I saw someone wear this Fury Bear Scarf (hat) from Nacon, and had to have it! I found the store on the Marketplace, and it had a couple of items listed. I also looked at the creator’s profile in-world, and there is no in-world store (yet) cos the brand is new, I guess.
Try a demo of this Fury Bear Scarf before you buy, cos the it is rigged mesh and only comes in 3 sizes. I searched for ages in my inventory to find the right hairstyle that would ‘work” with this hat, and it was not easy! I didn’t want to wear a short hairstyle, so I chose the Over hairstyle (braids) from Elikatira.
Although I’m ready for Spring, I will probably do a few more Winter styles in Second Life, at least until February! 🙂
