Linden Lab will be auctioning off land on the Nautilus continent!! If this is anything like the Bay City sims, a 1024 sq.m. parcel will cost you between $75,000L and $200,000L or more!!! Nautilus is still unspoiled and beautiful, before the land barons move in so I’ve snapped a bunch of pictures!!
Hello Nautilus tower thingie! I can see this from my mainland parcel.
A ship & the continent behind me
Roads & Great looking builds!! I bet Barnesworth Anubis was one of the moles that built this city, the shops/builds looks like his work. They’re CUTE. There’s even a pink one…
Chess!!
This is a "Gated" community… 😛
Hmmm what’s my logo doing floating outside Nautilus… LOL jk!! I dragged it there. Yay for 15 minutes autoreturn!
It’s time to get a Flickr Pro account if you are a fan of the photo hosting service/social media platform. The Flickr commercial use policy has been in effect for years, so even though they have not enforced it in the past, they are now. It’s time to pay up or risk having your account terminated. According to this blog post on NWN, many Second Life residents with FREE accounts are in violation of the commercial use policy.
If you are a designer in SL and make money, consider Flickr Pro the cost of doing business, if you actually want to do business and not call it a “hobby”. As my friend says, even hobbies cost money. I’m surprised at the pushback from some SL designers and bloggers since Flickr is the photo social platform of choice for SL residents, and not even prohibitively expensive. It’s only $50/year! I’ve been a Flickr Pro member since November 2007 (proof below) and an SL snapshot addict with over 19,660 photos. I definitely see value in Flickr from the moment I started using it to cross-post my blog photos and saw that I could multi-task by promoting my blog and follow my favorite brands at the same time!
There are so many reasons that Flickr is superior to other photo hosting services, that it would be a huge loss for designers and Second Life residents if it shuts down. Would you support a service that you use for pleasure or for profit, for $50/year? Many brands in SL don’t even update their blog nowadays, so they rely on the social power of Flickr to share their new releases. And what will become of “flickr bloggers”, if they can no longer credit brands and post links? If you find value in Flickr, it’s time to go pro before it bites the dust.
If you want to remain a FREE Flickr account, here’s what you need to do to not have your account terminated:
Nyoko Salome, the body oil baroness has made this awesome little glitter version of her famous body oil!! I know a lot of people think of body oil as being just for blinging escorts with fake bake tans, but I’m here to tell you that it’s OK to wear body oil, embrace it, make it your own.
I’m excited that Nyoko just released v2 of her famous Body Oil!! What I’m wearing above is the BodyGlitter Light version, I prefer it to the Super (too strong) and regular. GLITTER ROCKS!!!
Other Stuff I’m Wearing: Aoharu – Nikki Hair | Sey – Afghan (group gift) | Camie Cooper – Sport Beater (tintable) | ZeroNumber – Engineer Boots
The latest Cyber skins by Mina really makes everything else stand out. I’m pairing this with Curio Psychobilly hair in Fairy Pink and Sin Skins Intense Violet/Obsidian Eyes.
Do you like my outfit today? As soon as Neve announced this new release, I ran to get it! Grime and Grit are a respective top and shorts set that makes me feel like it’s the 90’s again. Not that the 90’s were a particularly great decade for me growing up, but sometimes it’s fun remembering the fashions from back then. You can grab this set from Uber.
DLSS 5 vs Raw Second Life snapshot (Slide to view before/after)
Thanks to Hamlet at New World Notes for the mention! Be sure to take the DLSS 5 Survey and share what you think.
DLSS 5 is so much fun to experiment with, but it’s not magic. It’s not going to suddenly make your avatar look drastically different, and it’s definitely not like AI editing that can sometimes turn a cartoon avatar into a realistic human. My Second Life avatar still looks completely recognizable. The textures may look a little better, details may stand out more, and there’s additional shading around the face, hair, clothing, and environment that gives everything a little more depth. Sometimes the difference isn’t even that dramatic, but there’s just enough added dimension that I really like the overall look.
Of course, there are going to be critics and purists, especially people who are against anything involving AI, but I don’t understand the need to loudly discourage other residents from experimenting with it. Whatever happened to Your World, Your Imagination? In real life, people put filters over their photos every day using phone apps, Photoshop, and a million other things. Second Life photography has always involved experimenting with lighting, advanced Third Party viewers, graphics settings, post-processing, etc. DLSS 5 is just another thing to play with.
I’ve posted thousands of raw Second Life photos across my social media over the years, so I don’t think using DLSS 5 suddenly means someone lacks photography skills. Sometimes I want a raw SL photo, sometimes I want to edit, and sometimes I want to press F6 and see what DLSS 5 does. If you want to try it, try it! You might love it, you might hate it, or you might decide the difference isn’t worth the trouble.
As I sit there pressing F6 to turn DLSS 5 on and off, though, I can’t help thinking that I’m getting a tiny glimpse into what Second Life might eventually look like. I can imagine creators continuing to push textures and materials in this direction, especially with hair and face skins, where more detailed shading can add so much depth. Maybe someday we won’t need an experimental filter to get this look at all.
