I switched to the new typepad dashboard about 2 weeks ago and it sucks. They said it was more organized, bla bla bla… but it actually takes longer to find things now. I was excited because I thought they would have more detailed stats built-in, but nope, same ol' stats in shiny new package. Still, my average page views are going up!!
Now is a great time to purchase a Juicy ad… *hint hint* Be seen by thousands of Second Life residents daily! If you think my pageviews @ JuicyBomb is good, you should see what we get at iheartsl.com.
I just went to the Mesh Body Addicts Fair early to check out the skins and mesh body parts offered, and I haven’t decided on anything new yet. If you want to go before the fair opens to the public on August 1st, join the Mesh Body Addicts group in-world (it’s free to join). I thought the fair was a good size with just two sims, and a very open layout. Easy to navigate. I didn’t like that some brands seemed to rez old items and didn’t clearly label what items were new and/or exclusive to the fair. Keep it simple!
I found Goji at the fair; this is a brand that I wanted to check out since its launch earlier this year. This is a more kawaii brand from the same team that is behind ColdLogic. How talented is Damien Fate? He has more brands than I can remember at the moment, and all of them are different. I recently blogged about FateLashes, which I am still wearing daily!
The only thing I bought at this fair is the new Smarties Frills dress from Goji. This is a fair exclusive, and it is so inexpensive! For $190L, the dress includes a 4 color HUD with buttons to turn the front and back bows on/off, and a shine option. Here’s a map of the MBA fair, so you can find all of your favorite brands faster.
Reminder, today is the last day of Hair Fair! I am wearing a hair from Elikatira; a brand I haven’t worn in ages cos I thought the brand became inactive. I guess it’s back? This is your last chance to buy hair with some of the proceeds going to charity.
What I’m Wearing:
Elikatira – Haley
Goji – Smartie Frills
The Secret Store – Becky T-Strap Heels (Milk)
What is Decentraland? It is a new virtual world, where you can socialize and make money. Users can build, buy, and sell land with a cryptocurrency called MANA. My friends kept asking me if Decentraland is similar to Second Life or will be better than Second Life, and the answer it… I don’t know. We’ll find out!
Truth Hair recently celebrated its 19th anniversary in Second Life, which is kind of surreal to say out loud. Truth has been making hair for as long as I’ve been playing SL, and at this point the brand isn’t just well known. It’s one of the longest standing and most successful hair brands on the grid.
In a world where stores come and go constantly, that kind of longevity is rare. And that’s why what happened recently feels like a genuinely historic Second Life moment. A few days ago, I noticed a new Truth release called Cupid hair, and the credit immediately caught my attention. The hair was made by Truth’s real life daughter, known in SL as Litterbug.
I already knew she had joined Second Life about a year ago and had been creating hair accessories. But I didn’t realize she had moved into creating full hairstyles too, so of course I messaged Truth right away. I needed confirmation, because my brain immediately went: this is a first in Second Life!
When I asked if she created Cupid hair or just the clips, he replied that she made the entire thing, and added, “with a lot of questions.” She didn’t just casually log in and magically become a hair creator overnight. People forget that everyone starts somewhere, and even the biggest brands in Second Life were once new and releasing their very first item. And she’s lucky in the best way, because she has an amazing mentor in her father. Cupid hair is a beautiful first hairstyle, and if I didn’t know it was her first, I wouldn’t have guessed.
Once I processed it, I told Truth what I was thinking. This is kind of historic. Because with this release, Truth is now officially a two-generation brand in Second Life. That is not something we see often. Second Life has been around long enough now that we are literally watching a creator’s child grow up, develop the skills, and start creating for the same brand inside the same virtual world. If that doesn’t count as SL history, I don’t know what does. Truth’s reaction made me smile. He said, “Yeah I guess you’re right. That is crazy.”
Litterbug is Gen Z, and that detail matters more than people realize. Truth joked that she has a better idea of what fashion trends are because he’s “too old” now. It’s funny, but it’s also true.
Truth told me she’s been learning Blender for a couple of years and has done product visualizations, but she decided to try creating in SL because, as he put it, she thought, “why not make some money.”
Truth also told me she proudly calls herself a nepo baby, which is hilarious. In SL terms though, she really was rezzed into royalty, in the sense that she’s had access to knowledge, experience, and guidance that most creators never get when they’re starting out. And yes, having a parent with a huge brand is obviously an advantage. But it doesn’t take away from what matters here: very few brands last long enough to thrive for two decades and then have the creator’s child step in and start releasing, too.
Truth also said something that stuck with me. Watching her join SL made him realize again how hard it is for a new resident. Most of us forget, because we’ve been here forever. We forget how confusing the platform can be when you’re starting from scratch, even if you’re already skilled and tech-savvy.
That’s why this moment feels bigger than just a cute fun fact. She’s part of the age group Second Life constantly struggles to attract, and she’s here creating. If SL wants to be around for another 20 years, it should be paying attention to creators like her, and what it takes for someone her age to even want to log in, learn, and stay.
Truth Hair becoming a two-generation brand is one of those things that seems small at first, until you realize what it says about Second Life. A 19-year brand. A new generation stepping in. A real legacy. In a virtual world.
Second Life should be paying attention.
Now, onto what I’m wearing today.
My friend Sparkle sent me another sweet kitty from SeMotion Libellune as a gift, which means I now have my 100th cat in Second Life. I have so many at this point that I’m glad I don’t have to feed them to keep them alive, because that would bankrupt me.
I’m also assembling my Valentine’s Day outfit for the Hug a Linden event next weekend, and I think this look might actually work? The shoes are called Softly Struck from HANII, from the January round of Anthology. If only I could turn off the arrow on these shoes, because they’re so cute and I would wear them year round.
I’m sick this week! 🙁 Not feeling well, so here’s a quick pic featuring something that looks like it belongs to the The Weeknd’s Party Monster. I love Party Monster because of its story. Much like Phaseone’s remix of Breakin’ Bread, it speaks of someone who starts out in power, but his surroundings quickly overwhelm him and become his undoing.
I can’t seem to remember what this theme is called! I’ve seen it in Macbeth and Scarface as well. Does anyone remember? Leave me a clue in the comments if you can think of what that kind of plot device is. Thanks!
What I’m Wearing:
Lelutka Simone Head
Truth – Halston
Pink Fuel Doll V2 Skin
Pink Fuel Fresh Lip Tints
RC Cluster – Meditation Circle (candle)
Tres Blah – Ruffled Crop Tank
Neve – Rolled Denim Pant
ROC – Martens Boot
Yumesh – Cross Earrings
Hi from the edge of my houseboat on Bellisseria! I never wanted a houseboat until two weeks ago, when I visited a friend’s houseboat. The view outside of the windows reflected gorgeous endless ocean. I fell in love instantly, and prayed to the Linden gods for a houseboat. Prayer answered.
I’m still getting the hang of decorating a houseboat, so it’ll be partially empty for awhile. I wanted a waterfront location to test how the light and sky reflects in the water, cos I’m making some custom EEP settings for personal use in the EEP viewer. Apparently EEP will go live very soon, so I recommend familiarizing yourself with it now!
Last night, I went to the D-Skin store to see if there were any new skins release. What ever happened to DynamiteTanaka Payne? He hasn't released any new skins since last year! Despite my gripe with D-Skin for having ugly toes and ears, but all the faces there are so precious it's hard to resist. Each skin is $1,000L and has very neutral makeup. I wish there were more makeup choices to justify spending $6,000L on the fatpack. I won't fatpack a skin with only 3 lipstick colors and barely any eyeshadow.
I'm wearing D-Skin #63, one of the cutest and most realistic face I've seen on skins. If there were more makeup choices (and lighter brows), I would wear this skin all the time. I hope they release something new and work on the skin a little more!! D-Skin please come back from hiatus!! <3
D-Skin = #63 Truth – Marianne (Espresso) Dark Mouse – Loves Labours Lost Necklace (Gold/Pearl) Cami Cooper – Sport Beater (Tintable) Zenith – Group Gift (Pink Pajamas Set)
