Alright guys, time for a lil’ poll.
There’s a designer that hates me — she doesn’t say it to my face but I see her making snarky comments here and there. Yet, I still buy her stuff, because I happen to like it. Should I stop buying it? Do you purchase items from designers you KNOW hates you and have publicly made negative comments about you?

if its known to me that they hate me and they make snarky comments about me i would not purchase from them. i don’t think any designers have ever hated me though >_>
Nope, I think I wouldn’t go into a shop in RL where the salesgirls are gossiping about me behind my back!
There is no way I would ever reward that kind of behavior, from a designer/store owner with a purchase, in this economy one would think he/she would know better!
You know me..I’ll usually buy about anything…but, there are two stores in SL that I will NEVER shop at again and make it a point to tell everyone why I won’t:)
My initial thought is to not let HER behavior dictate what you do…..
BUT…..
If she is is indeed an ‘UNfriendly’ force….I’d think that there MUST be other designers out there that can ‘fill that need’ for you.
Kill ’em with kindness, I say. I march to the beat of my own drum. If you like it, go. If she bans you, then let your 10k readers know. 😉
I agree with the above comments: You’d think the designer would know better. Honestly, I wouldn’t buy from them anymore, and let all my readers know about their rudeness. For me personally, customer service is the most valuable thing, and I wouldn’t consider giving my money to someone who didn’t deserve it.
However, it is YOUR money. I would try to find an alternative to her designs (who knows, maybe there’s something better out there) first, but if you just have to give in, then buy the stuff. Like said before, don’t let HER immaturity stop you from having stuff you really love. 🙂
Screw that, I wouldn’t even bother stepping foot in their store again! 🙂
It bewilders me that people can ‘hate’ someone they dont actually know in SL. I wouldn’t cut off my nose to spite my face though, as long as you WANT to buy her stuff and she isn’t rude directly and obviously…i would still shop there.
There are a million stores in SL, so I would use the opportunity to look elsewhere. This POE hunt has really opened my eyes to a lot of great stores I didn’t even know existed!
You know, I can’t think of a better way of winding up a designer than them seeing someone they really loathe swanning around in their gear! Ooh that would be soooo irritating and show them that you really don’t care. Having said that really negative vibes should be avoided at all costs. Guess it depends on how bad they made you feel.
To me, it doesn’t matter if they like you or not, you like the product, and if you want it then buy it I say. I’ve been in the opposite situation of sorts .. theres a few SL retailers that I don’t like the owner of at all, I’ve met them and have reason. But I still shop from their shops because socially I may not like them but I can’t dispute the skill they have as creators.
Only one? Think there are more than just one. lol
As a desginer myself – I’d have to 100% agree with what Leeloo said: “It bewilders me that people can ‘hate’ someone they dont actually know in SL.” – All of us have bad days sometimes, and on both sides things can be said and done that might be considered ‘rude’ by either party. I know myself, sometimes I forget things or messages get capped which leads to simply not knowing – as well, some people consider that ‘rude and arrogant’ then, while others know themselves these thigns happen and resend their request.
Overall, a repeated bashing on one another on both ends only shows immaturity though, and honestly, dragging war-fare into blogs and involving people that don’t have anything to do with it doesn’t solve the problem either. So I’d say… if you feel there is a serious problem, address it to her. Talking with the parties involved helps more than basing actions on assumptions. And then make your decission from there. 🙂
btw… my big thumbs up for the fact you didn’t already name them right away! 😀
I’m with Krissy Muggleston. You’re being the better person in the long run.
Personally i wouldnt shop there again, its your money your lining her pockets with, find alternative and maybe better and if you cant resist her stuff your gonna have to grin and bare it im afraid :), its down to how u feel about it and if you can be the bigger person directly ask her what is the issue and try to resolve it you never know there may be a friendship waiting to happen 😀
I wouldnt buy from them if they feel the need to talk crap about you. Take the loss, there are plenty of other stores on the grid. But, as a blogger, you already knew that. 🙂
actually i just don’t buy stuff if the quallity or the support is shit but for that case .. uhm.. difficult to say. depends probably on the comments which the designer would make but from the first thought: no i dont would love to support such a person with my lindens, I would try to find an alternative creator with the same topic so I can forget the shop more easily 😀
Well this uestion doesnt really apply to many because no too many know deisgner on personal level or in genral most jsut buy there clothes
but if you did it really depends on if there doing it and others are noticing or maybe it all in your head
so really depends
sry if this doesnt help
I guess it would all depend on if that designer has a good reason for hating me. If I’d done something to hurt them, then I would feel that they are justified in having negative feelings towards me and that’s my problem. If they hated me for no reason, then they are behaving irrationally and that’s their problem. Either way, if I liked their products, I would still shop there.
I’m sure she wouldn’t miss your patronage.
Carissa, good to know you’re speaking on behalf of other people know. News to me.
If it were up to me, I don’t see the point in shopping at someone’s store who is rude to me or my friends. For every store that sells dresses, hair, etc, there’s 100 more stores who sell similar product and aren’t so immature.
The whole territorial, cyber-bullying of people just because they’d rather be honest to themselves than spend their SL-life shoving their nose up a designers’ ass has seriously grown so effing old. For anyone who has been ostracized by these high-school antics, seriously I’m on their side. I won’t shop or endorse a product made by anyone who is so convinced in their Diva=SL Designer=God status. Get.Over.Yourselves.
Bloggers, designers, shoppers, builders, socializers, etc. we’re all important. I’m not saying we all have to like each other. Just realize a designer is not better than a blogger or shopper or someone who doesn’t bother with the SL Fashion arena. Each opinion doesn’t really hold more weight over the other. You know?
So I think it’s cheap and petty for someone to entertain themselves in SL by trying to make things unpleasant for another SL resident. Whoever that designer is, in my eyes, they’re equivalent to a common day griefer and the SL experience they’re really crapping on is their own. No one elses.
Yes,i have to agree with Lash, some are just to far up their own ass lol
