I love secrets. Who doesn’t? And most people think that *I* cannot keep a secret, which is not true. I can keep a secret if I determine that they’re not telling me the secret to manipulate me. For example, I hate when a “friend” tells a secret and says “oh I am only telling you this” right before they ask you for a bunch of favors. Screw off!
I feel like there are secrets and then there are secrets.
How do you feel when your friends tell you secrets, do you like it or hate it? Can you keep a secret to yourself??
I collect lots and lots of couples poses, but rarely ever blog them because few of my guy friends are in my time zone, or they’re sl-married, or partnered, or whatever. Busy & unavailable people, pretty much.
I did manage to snag one of my oldest pals in SL, Chad, to pose for a few of these couples sets with me.
I rarely ever do these look-of-the-day type entries mainly because I am lazy and I like to run around barefoot most of the time. I'm making an exception today to show you some new goodies that I bought today during a shopping binge & some older stuff that have been floating around the black hole that is my invy.
This gorgeous Swallowtail Butterfly necklace & matching hair clip is a work of art. Natsuko Paravane does prim jewelry using themes from nature like flowers & animals like no other in SL; I love her pieces so much, and they have a chunkier look than other jewelry but still very delicate looking.
This new Shiki Bikini Outfit (in Tropical Leaves print) is perfect for virtual island life. I rarely wear long skirts, but this one was sexy enough because it had a matching bikini top.
These Kalnins Coquette shoes are all the rage this week, I'm seeing it everywhere on other people's blog so I had to grab a pair and see them for myself. For $500L, these are texture-changeable with 11 color-combo presets, or you can customize your own with 11 different textures (they're all solid colored textures, not prints, although Hawaiian prints would have been very pretty!). Up close, I thought the sculpted work was amazing but the textures looked a bit dusty? Not saturated enough? I'm not sure what it needs since I'm not a creator, but the textures are not as vibrant as other shoes I have. Still, for $500L, its a pretty good deal since you can play around with a lot of different colors combination.
Happy New Year! I think the future of Second Life skins is leaning into more textured looks, which adds to realism. I don’t usually love textured skins, but they do look so much more realistic than the smooth, flat skin we’re used to. That shift is really obvious with this new Madeline skin from Glam Affair. It’s very textured and very freckled, and while that isn’t normally my preference, I ended up loving it. I did tone it down a little with a few of Izzie’s tattoo fixes, which helped balance everything out.
That move toward texture feels closely tied to PBR, which is now being added not just to environments but to avatars as well. Because of that, I expect skins to keep changing in 2026, adding more depth in ways that make our avatars look more real and less flat. Even though PBR has some interesting moments, I still think it’s unfortunately a turn off for a lot of current residents. Change is difficult, especially when you’ve been around long enough to remember how things looked before. Maybe newer residents, who don’t have that comparison, will like it more.
All of this ties into the bigger picture of where Second Life is right now. When I decided to close my region at the end of 2024, I had a strong feeling that 2025 was going to be a difficult year in real life, and that it made sense to pull back spending in Second Life. I’m glad I stuck to that decision all year and didn’t bring the region back, even though I wanted to at least a dozen times. I also won’t be bringing it back in 2026 because of the economy, both in Second Life and in real life. There isn’t a lot of growth yet, and it feels like the Lindens are panicking.
I recently watched a snippet of an interview with Brett Linden on MetaRealities’ YouTube channel, and what really stood out to me was how much growth is needed for survival. Needed. Not just for Second Life as a company, but for the creators who make a living here. You can only get so much out of the current residents, which is why attracting new people feels so urgent right now.
So I’m ending one year and starting the next in a much calmer mindset. I rang in the New Year in this cozy Eboshi pajamas set from Aurun at Anthology. Comfort and chill is the vibe I’m going for this holiday season, so I paired them with the Not Tired Bow Slips from The Kiwi Co.
The yummy BAX Prestige Boots are now available in Suede textures too! I’m wearing Black, Brown, Blue, Green and Purple above. Bax Coen really went all out this time, there are twenty different colors to choose from! I’m only show you a small sample, visit the shop to see the entire collection.
The BAX boots has 6 different tops to choose from — this is my favorite feature!
About a month ago, I purchased the VDR Island Cottage; it was fully furnished but I wanted a more personal look so I am slowly re-furnishing every room. So far…. I have done the office, kitchen, and this cute little sitting area.
I love the Kyoot Home Silhouette Photo Tree! It’s 33 prims so maybe not for the prim-conscious but it definitely fills a wall nicely and can take the place of a bookshelf or fireplace.
