  • Do you want to be a fashion blogger?

There have been a lot of discussions on the do's and dont's for SL fashion bloggers lately. I've been blogging without a rule book for 2 years now and so far I think I'm doing OK. So here's MY own list of things you should keep in mind, not necessarily have to do, but it will be helpful:

    Helpful hints for fashion bloggers:

    1. Blog what you love

It's ok to blog just items that you love and gush about them. Even if your taste is not the same as everybody else, if YOU love it, it shows and somebody out there might have been looking for that exact item.

    2. Be honest but not mean

Point out flaws but don't go out of your way to criticize. Whenever I see seams or other flaws, I will point them out. Now, if a designer was newer and their seams don't quite line up but the design is cute and was worth the $, I would let it slide! Does that make me a terrible blogger? I always consider the item overall, but there are some things that are unforgivable (like seams on a skin!).

    3. Learn to take good pictures

A picture says a thousand words… bad lighting and a bad pose will
discourage others from buying the items you want to showcase. And you
do want people to buy it right? That's why you're blogging it in the
first place? So read tutorials, ask others for tips, and figure out how
to take nice photos! You don't have to be a Photoshop genius (I'm not),
I just take pictures in-world and crop them using Picnik (the online photo editing service).

    4. Don't start a blog for the "free stuff"

Whatever you do, don't start a blog because you think it will get you
"free stuff", that won't happen. Designers have a sea of bloggers to
choose from, they will most likely send review copies to bloggers they
know will do a good job featuring their products, not just someone who
wants the "free stuff" and disappears in a month or two.

    5. Consider a blogging budget

Even though bloggers are known to receive "review copies", we still have to purchase a lot of items. Many designers do not send out review copies at all, and if you love something and want to feature it, you have to buy it. Consider making a blogging budget (anywhere between $5,000 and $20,000 weekly) and stick to it! Don't feel pressured to buy all the latest, and also make use of good freebies if you want to blog daily but not go into debt! 😛

    6. Be ready for criticism

People who don't blog themselves will tell you that you're not blogging right or how to blog. In most cases, I would say ignore them, but I think that anybody who publishes anything on the internet should be ready to accept both positive and negative feedback. Some of it might be valid, even if it's negative. I find that most of the comments on my website are positive but there are negative comments and I consider them without letting it ruin my day.

    7. Blog for yourself

I can't think of anything else right now but I will end with this really important tip. When you blog for yourself, you'll be a lot happier than keeping up with all the latest trends or letting others dictate how you should blog.

That's all for now! These tips are just basic ones for newer bloggers but they're not set in stone or anything.

    Love Soul Prim Nails

I love prim nails! Love Soul is one of my favorite places for them, cos the designs are so cute and they fit very well with no adjustments necessary, if you use the recommended hand size (20). These nails transforms plain ugly avatar hands into something more realistic and elegant.

    Unskilled Jobs: Model

I’ve been wondering why so many SL residents aspire to be models. According to the SL Wiki site, this is an unskilled job, along with Dancer, Shop Attendant, and Bouncer/Security Agent.

    Model

Another very glamorous unskilled job is becoming a model. Hiring is done in a similar way as with dancers, but the truth is, there are not many modelling job opportunities. There are a few modelling agencies around, and clothes designers usually contact them to organize big fashion events, just as in real life. These attract very large crowds and are certainly one of the best and more fun ways to present your clothing lines to the Second Life public.

To become a professional model, you’ll have to do a serious investment in yourself. To earn a large amount of L$, you not only need a gorgeous avatar, but highly-priced items like a special skin, hair (often prim hair, which is expensive), good make-up techniques, and catwalking animations, preferably unique (thus, often you have to pay someone to create them for you). To become a famous model, expect a recurring investment in more animations. Still, the job usually pays well. And you get the glamour and fame that comes with the job.

The above description is so inaccurate!!! I personally cannot name any SL famous models and I’ve heard that the pay is terrible or they’re only paid in stuff. I guess modelling could be considered a role-play activity, the chance to partake in an activity that’s ‘glamorous’ and be in the same place with other people.

My advice for newbies, or people who want to be a model for the money or fame (lol) is to start a blog instead!

    Bloggers

    • You get free stuff (from designers, all the time)
    • Everybody that reads your blog knows who you are
    • You can blog any time, and wear anything you want
    • You get paid (advertising) or you do it for fun/get stuff
    Skill required (for fashion blogging)
    • Be literate
    • Know how to take snapshots
    • Know how to publish your posts
    Models

    • You get free stuff (for events that you’re working)
    • Only people you’ve worked for knows who you are
    • People tell you where to go, when to be there, and what to wear
    • You get paid (per event) or you get paid in “stuff”
    Skill required (for modelling)
    • Look good
    • Know how to wear clothes
    • Know when to “POSE”

Being a blogger isn’t that complicated, but neither is being a model. I’m sure there are more “skills” required to do both well, but I only have blogging experience and anybody can start a blog!

To start blogging, just buy stuff, wear it, take pictures and publish it on a blog.

To start modelling you have to buy stuff, wear it, find someone to hire you or join a modelling agency and pay them a ton of money… and maybe they’ll find someone to hire you.

Are you a model in SL? Do you want to be a model? What’s the best/worst thing about being a model?

Are you a blogger in SL? Do you want to be a blogger? What’s the best/worst thing about being a blogger?

If you’re not a blogger or a model, what do you think of these two jobs?

**** Most bloggers blog for fun, it’s not really a “JOB”

    Babydoll Romance

    Digit Darkes by you.

One of my favorite gowns in my inventory is the Digit Darkes Dinka dress. I had this gown in Autumn colors but I picked up the Winter color this week, a combo of deep reds perfect for this long romantic looking Danie hair from BishWear. Why do I like the Dinka dress so much? Look at it!! It’s a babydoll gown and a formal dress rolled into one. <33

  1. Pretty Lady ^^ This looks a lot different on you than the shot that was sent out with the notice. I love it.

  2. It’s very pretty, but why are so many designers making skins with lips that look like you just got lip injections?

  3. Breathtaking! U look awesome as usual!!! I love this flower dress, could u pls tell me where I can find it? Thank u so much in advance :-))

  4. I just bought this skin pack yesterday in the nougat skin tone, and omg WOW! I absolutely love it, and agree with you on the makeup’s, the are very nice, yet natural too. I’m a self professed shopaholic in sl, hey all of us need retail therapy right? I went ahead and subscribed to your feed also. 🙂 Oh and btw for the prim nails I suggest the PM nails made by Tya Fallingbridge, as she has tons of the glove layers, which are matched to the popular skins in SL, LAQ being one of them. Can’t go wrong with goofproof nails. lol

    Alyse
