    Skin & Shape Expo 2011

Hello fellow skin addicts! The Skin & Shape Expo is pretty exciting this year, although I was a lil’ disappointed when some designers pulled out at the last minute. There are still tons of amazing new skins, shapes, and makeups, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

I would normally do more thorough reviews by showing you all the makeups and some skin options, but this event is only 10 days so I want to try and show as many different skins as I can before it ends. Be sure to check out iheartsl.com for Skin & Shape Expo coverage from other blogs, cos there are tons and tons of them right now.

Banned for Wearing It: How Second Life Creators Are Punishing Their Own Customers

Banned for Wearing It: How Second Life Creators Are Punishing Their Own Customers

Recently, some Second Life creators have started banning customers from their stores. Not for breaking any rules, not for stealing content or abusing permissions, but just for doing something completely normal: buying an item, wearing it, taking a photo, and sharing it.

I came across a post about a designer banning a blogger from their store after the blogger posted a photo of a product they bought and used AI to enhance it. This wasn’t about stealing or breaking any rules. It was simply a customer enjoying a product, sharing their creativity, and getting punished for it.

The reason? Some creators are worried that edited or AI-enhanced photos might somehow be used to train machine learning models that could steal their designs. But that just doesn’t hold up.

Generative AI doesn’t work like that. These models aren’t trained on a handful of pictures from someone’s Flickr or blog. They rely on massive datasets with millions of images pulled from all over the internet. No one is out there training an AI on your avatar’s jacket from a single snapshot. And even if that were possible, individual users can’t control how the internet works. You can’t blame someone who supported your brand for what tech companies might do with public images.

And here’s the irony: every brand pointing fingers at customers for supposedly “feeding” their images into AI models is likely doing the same thing without realizing it. If you’ve ever uploaded your ad to social media, that content could be used in large-scale AI datasets. If you’re using certain creative software, chances are those platforms reserve the right to use user content to improve their tools. Even platforms like X (Twitter) allow their AI to train on user data, including posts and interactions. The line between what’s safe and what’s vulnerable is much blurrier than some creators want to admit.

It’s also worth noting that the most successful brands in Second Life aren’t doing this. They’re not banning their customers for sharing their outfits. They’re not worried about AI filters or photo enhancements. In fact, most of them seem to understand that when people enjoy their products and post about them, it’s a good thing. It helps their brand grow, builds community, and keeps their work relevant. They’re thriving because they trust and respect their customers.

Then there’s the fairness aspect. A person spends their money on your product. They wear it, they like it, they post a photo. That’s free promotion. That’s literally what most creators want. To then ban them for it? It’s not just backwards, it’s insulting. It sends the message that your customers are only welcome as long as they do everything exactly your way.

And honestly, this doesn’t feel like it’s really about AI. It feels like it’s about control. Some creators want to decide who gets to wear their items, how they look in them, and what kind of aesthetic is acceptable. If someone edits a photo in a way you don’t like, or doesn’t fit your brand vibe, suddenly they’re out. That’s not protecting your work.

Second Life has always been about creativity and self-expression. People come here to explore identities and ideas they might not get to explore elsewhere. Fashion plays a huge part in that. It brings people together, helps them feel seen, and makes the world feel more alive.

But when creators start turning on the very people supporting them, it hurts everyone. In the end, it’s not just the creators or the customers who are affected, it’s the whole community.

So if you’ve been banned just for wearing something you bought and sharing a photo of it, you didn’t do anything wrong. You supported a creator, and they turned their back on you. That shouldn’t be okay.

Let’s support creators who genuinely appreciate their customers. The best creators understand that the relationship doesn’t end with a sale. They value the creativity of their customers, celebrate when people share their work, and recognize that customer engagement is part of the creative process. In a community like Second Life, respect and collaboration should go both ways. When we support creators who respect us, everyone benefits and grows together.

And if you’re a brand that doesn’t mind if your customers use AI tools to edit or enhance their photos, I’d really love to hear from you. Feel free to drop a comment and let people know. You deserve support too.

    Applecake

    Applecake

Today is a fantastic day for going broke (in style), cos so many SL designers have released all at once. I needed a calming outfit, so I chose this Applecake green Multiway Top from Malt and paired it with a pair of White Gatsby Pants from Tableau Vivant (new fav!).

    Malt

As the name implies, this top can be worn multiple ways. The top and sleeve attachment is sculpted and can be resized to fit, but I chose to wear the “boob” alpha, to remove the front of my chest and didn’t even bother with resizing at all. It’s a perfect fit, yay!

Speaking of going broke, have you seen ALL the new hair releases?

    Exile hair

    Exile – Esme | Kumiko

These new Exile hairstyle are simply stunning, and I just can’t decide which one is my new favorite. I love the retro looking styles <3

    Exile hair

    Exile – Nina | Voodoo (CH1C Exclusive)

    Truth hair

    Truth – Leilani | Kalia

Who can resist flowers in hair? NOBODY. These new Truth hairstyles are amazing; I can probably find a reason to wear it with any outfit.

    Elikatira hair

    Elikatira – Little | Something

Elikatira’s Blonde (05) hair texture is one of my favorites in SL. It always seems a bit brighter than the rest. I especially love this new Little hairstyle, cos I’m a sucker for messy, casual hair.

    What I’m Wearing:

Malt – Abegail Multiway Top (Applecake)
Tableau Vivant – Gatsby Pants (White)
Donna Flora – ORGANICA Necklace & Earrings
Gos – Pimp Your Pumps (Square Ballet) Ivory
    &
Tableau Vivant – (Prop art) Emo dressing room

    LeLutka Mesh Head

    LeLutka Mesh Head

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of LeLutka (and the team behind it). I’ve followed their creations throughout the years through various brands, and when they shift their focus, those products always comes out on top. In SL, it’s not easy to always be the leader of your industry, but they manage to do it with every single genre they focus on. I’m a huge fan of the hairstyles, more please!

I’m a mesh head collector. I love them, I may not wear them all the time, but I love the innovation and how much it differs from our default SL head. The skin texture is noticeably higher resolution, the face is smoother, and the facial expressions always wins me over.

    LeLutka Mesh Head

I am wearing the LeLutka (Leda) Mesh Head. Includes a HUD with built-in skin tones by Glam Affair, and plenty of options, as you can see above. All three of the new heads (Ever, Leda, Aria) will be released on April 1st, and from what I’ve read in the note card, there will be appliers available from other brands.

A few people have said that this face is super pouty on me, and yes it is! I like it cos it’s different from regular Gogo, with a splash of attitude.

    What I’m Wearing:

    LeLutka Mesh Head – Leda
    Exile – Tea Time
Teefy – Anouk T-Shirt Dress (White)
    Maitreya Mesh Body – Lara

    Welcome to Innsmouth!

I wanted a rural setting for my photos today and landed at the Innsmouth sim, which is a creepy New England town. I skimmed the note card, there was some info about a plague wiping out most of the towns people and that it’s based on a novel and you’re suppose to feel creepy (and lonely) here.

    Aoharu, ANEXX

The first thing I noticed about this sim is that everything was just a little bit crooked.

    Aoharu, ANEXX

I found a gas station, of course nobody was inside but I did notice a tip jar. There’s actually quite a few tip jars around this sim, I guess this is how they plan on paying for tier (since I didn’t notice any shops).

    Aoharu, ANEXX

    Aoharu, ANEXX

Look how creepy this playground is!!!!!

    Aoharu, ANEXX

Machang Pichot is back! A new Aoharu and ANEXX release is always exciting because Machang does such good work and there’s always tons of colors (especially Pink) to choose from. I adore the sculpted work, textures on these delicious new Fringe Western Boots that includes 2.0 versions.

    What I’m Wearing:

    Truth – Marnie (Mirage)
    AOHARU – DungareeLongShirt(White)
    MIEL – CUE Necklace
    ANEXX – FringeWesternBoots (White)
