Second Life 2.2 Beta Viewer, Shadows

SL 2.2 Beta Viewer Shadows

For fellow Shadows lover, the new Second Life 2.2 Beta Viewer has flawless shadows!! I am wearing just regular texture eyes in the picture above; prim eyes are no longer necessary! I guess LL does listen to feedback, because fixing this issue is HUGE! I could kiss them!

You can download the latest SL 2.2 Beta Viewer here.

If you don’t like the official viewer, Kirstens Viewer also does shadows perfectly, perhaps even better than SL until this latest beta viewer. I’m a big fan of Kirstens and have used it for the past few months but I always prefer to use the official SL client whenever I can.

Check out both! 🙂

How to Enable Shadows in the SL 2.2 Beta Viewer:

  • Press Ctrl+Alt+D to bring up the Advanced Menu
  • then Press Ctrl+Alt+Q to bring up the Develop Menu
  • Go to Develop -> Rendering -> check Framebuffer Objects
  • then check Light and Shadows -> Shadows from Sun/Moon/Projectors -> and SSAO and Shadow Smoothing

With the Kirstens Viewer, it’s much easier to enable shadows, just go to Preferences -> Graphics.

    Adorable!

Just curious if you leave shadow’s on all the time, or only for photos.
    Thanks for the tips.

hi Jennifer! No, I don’t leave shadows on all the time. Only when I’m in my platform taking pictures or rare in-world pictures. If I’m shopping or building? Definitely not! My PC can’t handle it at all, it will crash within minutes.

    Hey Gogo,
I was wondering what environment settings you like to use with shadows. I can never seem to get it quite right. 😀

Hm, do you know if it’s possible to preview before uploading or is it removed from both 2.1 and 2.2? (Haven’t tried in 2.1 but was uploading an eyeliner tattoo and noticed that it just uploaded directly)

Hmmm… Light and Shadows -> Shadows from Sun/Moon/Projectors -> and SSAO and Shadow Smoothing — it’s all greyed out here. Any way to activate that?

Yes! Now I can use the shadow settings for pics. 2.1 and the other popular 3rd party viewers let me down. Thanks for the post 🙂

    Hi Gogo,
I was wondering if you were one of the few that I know that was able to keep Anti-Alias on while shadows was enabled?

do not work for me at all.. :((( all items around me are blured and the alphas on the hair are invisible.. works only without alphas and on a plain background.
