Happy Fall, y’all! I decided to move back to my original Copperfield Heights 1024 Linden Home, just in time to enjoy the autumn colors and seasonal landscaping. I really do have a soft spot for this little place, despite abandoning all of the other homes I’ve had in Copperfield Heights. Apparently this is the one that survived my revolving door of Linden Homes!
As for my Linden Home addiction… it’s managed! I only have three Linden Homes today, so that’s progress, right? My friend Fay did an amazing job with the landscaping and decorating the interiors here, and it feels so cozy for fall. I won’t post the SLurl publicly, but if you happen to come across this house while exploring, you’re more than welcome to peek inside.
Despite everyone chasing the 2048 Linden Homes, which are constantly sold out and obviously in high demand, I still like the 1024s way more. They’re a much better bargain for me, and I prefer the squarish land parcels. I’m not really a fan of the long rectangular parcels on many of the 2048s, and the price increase doesn’t appeal to me either. Even though I’m a Premium Plus member, I’d rather use my extra tier elsewhere on Mainland.
Now, if only Linden Lab would fix the EEPs on the older themes and update some of those textures to PBR! Please don’t abandon the older Linden Home themes. I think the Victorians and Traditionals, especially, could benefit so much from those two updates and get a whole new life without needing to be completely redesigned. And while we’re making wishes, could we please get some more natural exterior colors for the Victorians instead of so many pastels? That would be a great little Christmas surprise. HINT HINT
My outfit today is totally respectable, and matchy… and to be honest, this outfit is perfectly fine without the floral headband, but you’ll have to pry it out of my cold dead fingers, cos I love it too much to not wear it. As I mentioned last week, LaGyo released a pretty large collection of floral hair accessories for their Mademoiselle line, and I’ve been trying to create looks that will work with some of ’em. I haven’t even shown you the huge floral Napoleon hat/headband thing yet, but maybe next time! It’s similar to this, but with more flowers and includes a hat.
I don’t wear Purple often, but I think it’s a classy color. I’m pairing this new Niti Skirt from Zaara with the Prudence Cardigan from mon tissu, and a new pair of Open Boots from G-Field (available at Shoe Fair).

Last year, Hamlet blogged about how to enable shadows in the SL Release Candidate viewer and I was so sad I couldn’t get my PC to do it! I waited almost a year before splurging on a new PC with a better graphics card and more memory so I could turn on shadows, finally.
The picture above is my very first snapshot with shadows enabled that looked halfway decent.
I read tutorials about it, I asked my friends, everyone gave me different advice. Use Kirsten, Use Rainbow, Use Emerald, blah blah. I downloaded Kirsten, but it made my avatar’s eyes turn Orange and also I didn’t like the UI at all (why was it tinted green?). I haven’t ever used a 3rd party viewer before so it threw me off a lot, so I ran back to the Second Life 2.0 viewer and tried again.

While shadows is still not perfect (eyes are invisible so you have to wear prim eyes), I just love it so much. I hope SL is listening! I want my eyes to rez and for alphas to rez better, pretty please?
I’m still getting the hang of it but I really like what I’ve seen so far. Since I really suck at Photoshop, I could never have done shadows like these on my own.

How I turned my shadows on:
Ctrl+Alt+Q to bring up the Develop menu on your SL 2.0 client
Scroll down to Rendering and make sure these things are checked:
Note: Make sure to that your Preferences -> Graphics is set to Ultra before attempting to turn on shadows.
I couldn’t take a snapshot with everything set on High (my screen turned black), so once shadows was enabled, I turned a few things that are not so important to low, like terrain, sky, trees, flexiprims… etc.
If you can’t enable shadows at all, maybe your graphics card is too old.
I am definitely open to suggestions, so if you’ve found a viewer or combination of settings that works, please share! 🙂

I love autumn landscaping in SL so much! It’s so beautiful, cozy, and colorful. I hope that residents in SL don’t rush towards snowy winter landscaping too early this year, so we can enjoy a longer virtual autumn season and not rush right into Christmas. Let’s talk about some exciting new Second Life changes. Skip this if you don’t cash out or don’t own a full region. Read this if you want to save money!
I’m a patient person when it comes to Second Life credit processing times. I convert the lindens to USD via the LindeX exchange to pay my tier. On the rare occasion that I do cash out, the money usually arrives at my PayPal account within 5 days. Linden Lab just implemented new fees, along with the promise of faster credit processing time. I tested it this week, and the cash out time is 1 day. That’s sort of amazing! The new 1.5% of the transaction value fee isn’t really that much, since I’ve read that a lot of residents are happier with faster processing time.
Do you want to pay lower full region tier? Of course you do! Linden Lab just offered the option for current sim owners to “Buy Down” their region to receive grandfather pricing. Grandfathered tier for a full region is $195US/month. Everyone else who does not receive special discounts (education, large estates) pay $295/month. If you want to save money and plan on keeping your region from now until the end of the year, this is a deal.
The pricing for this offer is as follows:
Some people are grumbling about the one-time buy-down fee, but do the math! Let’s say your tier is due some time in April (after today’s date). You pay the $600 buy down fee, and instantly receive a $100/month discount going forward. From April – December, you will save $100 every month, so that’s 9 month x $100US = $900US tier discount. Take $900 – $600 = $300US savings this year. Next year, and every year after that, you will save $1200USD in tier per year. I predict that in 6 months time, land owners will feel the pressure to lower their price to stay competitive. The Buy Down offer expires October 16th, 2016, but the sooner you pay the fee, the more money that you will save this year. If you pay the fee in October, you will actually not save any money this year — $600 buy down fee – $300 tier saving ($100 month x 3 months for October, November, December) = $300 spent. So do it now for the greatest savings!!!!!!! I love math. I love saving money!
