    Blackout August

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/imogenaureliasl/54693223591/in/dateposted/

I stumbled across the Blackout August initiative created by Second Life resident Imogen Aurelia, and I’m honestly really into the idea.

    BLACKOUT AUGUST
A pause. A reset. A quiet rebellion against the noise.

We’re stepping back from constant shopping — not to punish creators, but to challenge a system that’s chewing up time, talent, and energy for less and less return.

    Creators are burned out.
    Shoppers are overwhelmed.
    💸 L$ are worth less.
    🌀 The loop is unsustainable.

So we’re unplugging — for a month — to breathe, explore, connect, and remember what Second Life used to feel like before it became just another sales feed.

    This isn’t a protest. It’s perspective.
    Not a ban — but a boundary.
    Not harm — but healing.

✨ Support sims. Tip artists. Host meetups.
    Style your inventory. Explore again.
Let SL be about experience, not exhaustion.

    Imogen Aurelia

Even though I love shopping in SL, I’m totally on board with taking a pause. A reset for 30 days to stop the constant cycle of buying, and just enjoy what I already have. Maybe even do something different in Second Life. What’s that something else? Hanging out with friends, exploring sims, playing a game. Just being present.

This isn’t about boycotting anyone. I love SL creators. I’ve been shopping and blogging for over 18 years. But even from the consumer side, I can feel the burnout. Creators are producing too much, too fast, and shoppers can’t keep up. I miss when a new release felt special for months, when we showed it off to friends and designers actually had time to enjoy the success of their work instead of rushing into the next release or discounting at a weekend sale.

If going 30 days without shopping feels impossible, you can still take part in a way that works for you. Maybe that means buying only the things you really love instead of grabbing everything just because it’s new or on sale. Personally, I’ve been buying less without even meaning to. My inventory is out of control — I’m at 93K now and trying hard not to hit 100K. I need this break just to organize and reset. That alone is a project.

Can you still enjoy SL without buying anything? Yes. Absolutely. Brands are always giving away gifts and store credit. Most of us have inventory full of unopened things. You can wear what you already have in a new color or styled differently. You can still support creators you love this month by wearing items that you already own.

Some people might say this kind of pause hurts the economy or puts creators at risk, but that’s a much bigger conversation. Most of us are just players. We’re not here to keep the grid economy afloat. I’ve spent years spending money in SL, and I’ll continue to support the creators I love, but I don’t believe it’s my responsibility to make sure everyone is earning. SL is a hobby for most of us. We engage with it how and when we want to.

So I’m trying out Blackout August. I might go the full 30 days, or maybe just a week here and there. But I’m doing it. You can too. Try it in a way that feels right for you. Let Second Life be fun again, not just a sales feed. Let’s breathe a little.

    Blackout August, Let's do this!

    LeLutka Hair-a-licious!

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know I’m a skins, hair, shoes, and clothes whore (probably in that order too). I normally look forward to LeLutka skin releases but when there’s hair, especially sexy new hair, I am equally as happy because I like their hair textures a lot. These new ones seems to *shine* more than usual, don’t you think?

    LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head

    LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head

“Some people choose to see the ugliness in this world. The disarray. I choose to see the beauty.”

As I played with the new LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head, the quote above from Westworld kept replaying in my mind. I just celebrated my 10th year rez day in SL, and I love how advanced and beautiful everything is now. I’m grateful for the creators of SL who are serious about their craft and release outstanding quality products. With every advancement in SL (windlight, mesh, fit mesh, bento), I keep thinking that this is the best it can ever be, and then something else comes out that makes it even better!

    LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head

I’m sure you’ve seen pre-release info about the LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head and preview pics, so I won’t list all the features. Read the official blog post to see all the technical details. As someone who has worn a mesh head for years now, bento blows my mind because of its editing capabilities. I found a face that I loved from the previous lines of LeLutka heads, but of course I wished there were things I could tweak to make it feel more like me.

    LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head

The LeLutka Bento HUD is easy to navigate, fast, and includes some bonus features like eye positioning. I’ve worn a separate eye HUD to control my mesh eyes (mostly centering and keeping it still for photos), but now that’s one less HUD to wear!

    LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head

Look at these expressions! The HUD includes 24 expressions, 6 eyelid settings, parted mouth, blink, etc. If you play around with these, it’s possible to create random new expressions. I predict that there will Expression packs released in the future, so the possibilities are endless.

    LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head

Eye positioning, the eyelid move with it! I used a separate eye position HUD before, but my eyelid did not move, since it was not bento.

    LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head

I’m still editing my head, so you will probably see it change over time with tweaks and new skins. Is anyone else as picky as I am? In addition to having a nice front view, I also want my profile to be proportionate and pretty.

Some of my friends have asked me if they should get a bento head, and my answer is obviously yes, but do try a couple of heads from different brands before deciding. I may like LeLutka mesh heads best, but someone else may prefer the HUD/sliders and overall face shape of something else. A bento head still has restrictions, so there’s a chance you will want to tweak something but the slider won’t allow that much editing. For example, I wanted less eye crease, but at 0 setting, there’s still a lot of crease left. On other heads, I could almost squish the eye crease further, but I think sometimes allowing too much editing can deform a face. For now, I am fully committing to this Simone head, but I’m still excited for new faces that I can tweak 😀

There is a lot to say about this mesh head cos it is the best thing released in a long time! I’m super excited, and I can’t wait for all the fabulous skins and makeups that brands will release to go with this head! Do you wear a bento head now? What are some features you would like to see in a future release?

    What I’m Wearing:

LeLutka Simone 2.0 Bento Head (coming soon)
    Exile – Eyes On Me @ Collabor88
Glam Affair – Emily Skin (coming soon)
Blueberry – Show Time Mask, Dress, Coat, Ree Heels @ The Arcade
    Mandala – Choker (Princess-dogtag), Ring
