This Mesh Rustic Knit Cardigan from Mon Tissu is very pretty! I’m feeling so spoiled by the ease of wearing a single mesh attachment, that I don’t know if I can go back to a sweater with multiple attachment pieces to adjust. I don’t really care at this point, how I’m rezzing to “everyone else” that is not on a mesh-enabled viewer, get with the times, cos mesh is HOT.
I did notice this weekend while trying on a bunch of mesh things, that its not really possible to layer a mesh tank top underneath a texture/or regular sculpted prims jacket. Or wearing a mesh shirt tucked into pants.. its just not possible. For people who thought that texture clothing would be replaced by mesh, I think it won’t, in fact, we probably need more basic under things! I would love some more texture tanks, bra, panties, etc, to wear underneath my new texture clothes (even though a sometimes it’s hidden by alpha).
For as long as I can recall, Second Life has maintained a stance against ageplay. Now, with the introduction of a new Child Avatar policy, it seems the platform is reacting to a broader issue simmering within its virtual realms. However, there’s a sense that the policy doesn’t fully address the root of the problem.
Let’s clarify from the outset – we’re not discussing actual children here. It’s evident that the number of users under 18 in Second Life is relatively low, and the fraction that comprises actual children is even smaller. The question arises: Should Linden Lab assume responsibility for monitoring the real-life guardianship of its users’ children?
Turning back to the policy itself, personally, I’ve only created one toddler avatar in all my time in Second Life. Honestly, I don’t think Second Life is concerned about my diminutive, two feet tall avatar. The real target here appears to be avatars that blur the lines, those youthful teenage avatars clad in provocative attire and engaging in adult activities.
One might argue that simply prohibiting users under 18 from accessing Adult regions would suffice. However, the new policy, set to mandate a modesty layer on all “child avatars” by June 30, 2024, suggests otherwise. But what exactly constitutes a “child avatar”? According to American law, anyone under 18 is a child. So, if your avatar leans toward the younger side, could you find yourself in hot water?
In anticipation of these changes, I’ve begun reaching out to skin designers to inquire about updates for previously released products. Frankly, it strikes me as unnecessary for toddler/child skins to include private parts at all – they should have been excluded from the get-go. While my Bebe skin appears to be a blur with no discernible private parts, I’d feel more at ease if the designer updated it with painted-on underwear, just to be safe.
As Second Life rolls out these changes, one can’t help but wonder if they have the resources to effectively enforce them. Undoubtedly, a surge of abuse reports is on the horizon, whether valid or not. It’s clear that Second Life doesn’t wish to outright ban child avatars – family roleplay is a cornerstone of the community. From Zooby babies to pint-sized avatars, residents have been creating child avatars for years. My mini Gogo, for instance, is so cute.
So, here’s a plea to region designers: Please don’t ban “child avatars” on sight. Remember, most of us are well over 18, and child avatars are permitted on Moderate regions too. They’re only restricted from Adult regions, and if you opt to embody a child avatar, simply steer clear of those areas.
As I reflect on Second Life’s new child avatar policy, I find myself questioning its true effectiveness in ensuring children’s safety. While I appreciate the intention to create a secure environment, I can’t help but wonder about the practical implementation of the policy. Is it genuinely focused on protecting children, or is it more about managing Linden Lab’s image and legal liabilities? It’s a nuanced topic that deserves deeper exploration. If you share my curiosity or have concerns you’d like to discuss directly with Second Life, consider joining the first Community Roundtable with Second Life Leadership on May 20. It’s a chance to engage in constructive dialogue and seek clarification on any lingering doubts or questions.
Just when I’ve settled into a new face that I completely adore, LeLutka goes ahead and releases another one! At this rate, I’m embracing a slew of new faces each year—and falling in love with every one of them. LeLutka has launched two mesh heads, Billie for women and Aaron for men, at the Skin Fair, offering them at a 50% discount until the event wraps up on March 25th.
Now, let’s talk about the new Billie mesh head. To put it simply, it’s beautiful. The HUD has received an upgrade, adding more options to play with, and the most exciting addition for me is the introduction of two-layer options for the HD lips—something I have wanted for a long time! As usual, with LeLutka’s previous mesh heads, I had to adjust my shape to get the perfect fit for this new face.
Whenever I try on a new mesh head, I make it a point to test all the animations to see if the new expressions look good. I’m thrilled to report that Billie does not disappoint—the animations look fantastic, and somehow, they seem even better than my previous ones.
The new UBU Drunks by Urban Bomb Unit are incredible!! I'm a huge fan of UBU so I was so excited to see a new release and especially the new Customizer HUD which makes customizating SO much easier and more fun too! I'm truly amazed by the sheer number of options available, every part of this shoe that you see here is customizable with different colors and fabrics choices. Another perk is they are unisex! I've tried to make a variety of customs to show you that they really suit any mood – girly, army, gold (is that Burberry fabric I see?), and platinum!
In addition to the drop-down menu to change size, here is the new customization HUD. When you click a part of the shoe that you want to mod, it will turn red on the HUD. You can select several pieces at once to mod if they will have the same texture. This is genius…. I LOVE IT.
The attention to detail is amazing and everytime I get my hands on a new pair of UBU, I keep thinking they'll be the last pair I'll ever need. But with great shoes, one pair is never enough. I have every pair of shoes from UBU and I still get excited when there's a new release.
Right now these are on sale for $595L, there are gifting options available.
“Really, Cake? You had to do a snow photoshoot?” Yes! And hasn’t it been kind of disgusting outside? Unless you’re in one of the lucky areas of the world where you aren’t dealing with white stuff piled outside your door, you know exactly why this winter needs to hurry up and leave–quickly.
So if you’re someone dealing with a lot of snow outside, what have you been doing to keep warm? I’ve got something similar to this heating up my studio. It’s little more than a glorified blow dryer, but it keeps the room pretty toasty!
Today I’m wearing Nylon Outfitters’ Sequin Mermaid gown, with MiaMai’s Sian headdress and Serenata shoulder-pieces. All three of these items feature hand-drawn texturing–especially the headdress! I recommend you buy that right away. It’s a gorgeous piece of art that deserves to be ogled over and over.
Do you have any favorite headdresses in SL? Are you currently dealing with piles and piles of snow and polar vortex insanity? Any tips for staying warm? Let me know in the comments!
Hello from Pandora Resort! I blame my computer for not rezzing all the textures properly, cos there are still some things that remained blurry. I brought along my Autumn Bicycle from What Next. It is for decorative purposes only, but there are other bikes for sale that you can ride at the store. I love autumn and will try to blog lots of seasonal things this month.
A few days ago, Caroline and I went to SaNaRae to find some goodies and discovered that most of the brands had gifts out to celebrate the 1st birthday! I love free gifts; events don’t really do this anymore, but it gives me joy when things are free. My favorite find at the event is the dolls and hair accessories from Apple Girl. I played the machine and got a head accessory, but I wanted a doll!!!!
What I’m Wearing:

Step into a charming little world within Second Life, where every accessory whispers a story of cuteness. The Anthology event is back, offering a collection of delightful items for you to discover. I’m holding the enchanting Explorer Cat Backpack by Aardvark, featuring an animated kitten that brings the backpack to life. Customize it with the included HUD that lets you pick different cats and accessories, and color the backpack to your liking.
Also awaiting you is the Ducklin’ Toseds cup from Comatosed, inspired by a popular real-world brand, complete with little fish that swim around inside. You can change the cup’s color and the type of fish swimming in it, all thanks to a customizable HUD.
Discover NeutralTones, a brand new to me, with their Special Friend Tshirt. It looks deceptively simple, but the detail is spot-on, from the realistic folds to the HUD that allows you to choose between two cute friends and a variety of shirt colors.
Lately… I’ve been finding myself more drawn the the official viewer because of Mesh.
And I’m a regular Beta Firestorm user (No mesh 🙁 )
Mesh has got to be my top addiction in SL right now.
Ellie, I`m using Firestorm 3.0.1 (Firestorm-Beta-Mesh). I`m dressed in mesh from top to toe atm 😀 It`s working better than the official viewer for me right now. I usually use SL official beta releases.
I for one can’t wait for LL to fix the NVIDIA 400-series mesh incompability properly. It works fairly well on the Developer viewer, too bad nothing else does. Stupid LL, I want to be able to use mesh too -.-‘
I grabbed this cardigan as a soon as Celoe opened there doors! I just absolutely fell in love with it (along with half of the shop I also dragged home… it was an expensive day) However, I agree about there not being enough to wear underneath! It’s not just with shirts and such but I feel as Mesh becomes more popular, we are going to see a lot more Jackets and Cardigans being released. Question is, how well will they work with not only sculpted shirts (and other mesh shirts which you also cant wear with them) but poofy skirts? We’re going to be back at square one with sculpties =(
Tasks for LL to undertake with Mesh:
Allow it to change to ALL body modifications, not just height and width but body fat, breast size, butt size…
Allow Mesh to react to other mesh items? So a Jacket can be worn OVER a shirt, skirt or Trousers can move over / under boots and shoes…
Kinda not going to happen I know, but hey, it’s nice to dream that maybe in 10 years time we’ll be a step closer to these ideals!
I agree on the mesh/texture clothing. As much as I like the many cool aspects of mesh items, I still need texture clothing for laggy events and layering. Not to mention, we can only wear one alpha at a time, as far as I know, so it’s a bit inconvenient. Anyway, your dark hair and bright lipstick is looking really great in this outfit. The contrast is nice.
You’re very talented with shapemaking. I was originally going to ask about demo shapes. Your pictures are beautiful, but because one’s shape is so personal, many people are very careful about buying them, especially higher end shapes. But then I looked at your last post and noticed that you don’t respond to demo inquiries, so I guess it’s a lost cause, though I’m definitely curious why. Maybe someday you’ll tell us. 🙂
Gaawd, hahah, mesh is irresistable for sure, I am starting to get a collection my self to, even though i say i wont wear if it not resizeable i still do, the items i am getting are just to nice 🙂
and i was just thinking about grey boots the other day to, hahahha
Well, I have to say that I ADORE mesh, but even though it looks great on me, I had to stop wearing it because every single person (well, at least 99% of the time) ims me and tells me that my feet look like boxes, or my hair is a box, or that I’m naked.
I love mesh, but I really wish that more people could SEE it. THere are so many die hard phoenix users out there that will refuse to ever use a v3 viewer, and because of that, I choose not to wear mesh just to avoid the onslaught of IMs saying i dont look right.
It’s a great outfit….I want it SO bad, but I hate the IMs and complaints about my av not rezzing properly from those pesky phoenix users so much that I wont be wearing this much if I did buy it 🙁
I am on Dolphin viewer 3 now, it works better than the official viewer and Firestorm, for me at least. http://dolphinviewer.eregion.de/
I really hope that more content creators start using mesh as they do sculpts now. I am so in love with the dresses and skirts that has a rigged mesh skirt prim. I get the mix’n match freedom that I am used to. I would love to see system clothes with only mesh arms and a rigged mesh jacket part. That way, people would not hate that mesh forces them to change their shapes. It feels so clunky to use jackets with stiff sculpts now.
Phoenix users has to be the most stubborn people of all, and I don’t believe for a second that they haven’t heard about mesh now. Haven’t they logged in since August? They just send IMs to mock people and bully them to change.
I wear my mesh regardless of what people say. If they can’t see it, so be it. Im not going to limit my SL expriences to please others. Gogo, you look lovely as always! I’ve been your fan and blog reader since 2007.

Ugh so jealous. I’d like to use mesh, but teleporting is completely screwed up on any and all mesh viewers I try.
Great look though! 🙂 Can’t wait to catch up with the times, truly can’t. *Crosses fingers for next Firestorm release*

Cheshire, if the viewer you are using supports it, just right click from inventory and choose, `Add`. It’s the same as clothing/tattoo layers.
Ah, thanks Natali!
Is the bag available IRL as well? 😉 Gorgeous!

I will not avoid mesh cuz of some stubborn people stuck in 2010. 😉 I’m just making sure I’m wearing panties under my mesh jeans!

If someone tries to bully me cos of my look, they better prepare to be ARed for harassment!

The only girl who IMed me to bother me with my mesh clothes was wearing a facelight…

Singularity is a viewer that’s similar to Phoenix and has mesh. Very light. Might wanna try it.
