    AOHARU, so hot

    AOHARU

About 3 weeks ago, I blogged the FrontKnotShirt from AOHARU. They were only available in floral patterns & plain at the time, but now they available in PLAID pattern too!!! YESSSSSSS………!! These are so sexy, I love how it opens up to reveal a lot of cleavage but does *not* show nipples! I threw on the bra today cos it matched the top, but you can totally wear it bra-less.

    AOHARU

AOHARU also released this NoCollar jacket, and it’s sooo sexy. The jacket opens up in the front baring ALL, so you should definitely wear something underneath! I love this jacket cos the sculpted attachments are so well done, and fits my avatar with minimal adjustments. I just shrunk my boobs by 10 points here from 60 to 50, and everything fits like a glove.

    Visit AOHARU!

    What I’m Wearing:

Laqroki – Pearl 07 [Fair] Glow Skin
    LeLutka – AADI hair (Marilyn)
Fishy Strawberry – Ignition Bra (Green/Black)
    AOHARU – NoCollarLeather Jacket (White)
    AOHARU – FrontKnotShirt (Plaid/Green)
Addict – Gold Peace and Love Necklace
Decoy – Dana 76 Jeans (Faded Dark)

    Normcore

    Normcore

I was too cool. I knew it.

I had on mesh clothing with the exception of some texture jeans from Mon Tissu, for layering purposes with my Fashionably Dead sweater. My Clawtooth hair hung just right around my shoulders, curling in at my neck, fresh from the C88 sim and looking good. But it wasn’t enough for me–it was all too new, too with it. And according to K-Hole and Tumblr, who had declared the new fashion movement of #normcore (Tumblr by accident, admittedly), I was too modern and needed to go back a few years to make myself more in-the-moment. I needed the blandness of instinctual color pairing, knowing what shades went together, the right structure of negative space versus content in a picture that would represent the meaningless of life.

See, according to the fashion magazines and experimental blogs online, what’s actually cool is virtual reality. The two foremost mediums of that virtual reality gracing blogs and fashion mags right now is earlier versions of The Sims, and 2007-era pics of Second Life. Some people are unaware right now that their pictures are being yanked from Flickr and shared across blogs everywhere, not exactly parodied but halfway that, plus glorified for their alter-persona living their pop-culture-pixel dream against a computerized landscape. IMVU comes in third, with their retro-now-ness being the ‘it’ thing, but still coming in last for lameness and popularity.

And the more aimless your Flickr picture is, the better. Is your alpha missing on a shoe from an old photo of you sporting a sculpty heel? That is so #normcore. Are you sporting a polo from a freebie sim? That’s #normcore. Got a texture pirate shirt you snagged from a marketplace store? That’s so #normcore it’s possibly #seinfeldcore. And the fact you’re dressing so retro as what people imagine Second Life avatars *should* be dressing like, is so meta and lame that it makes you cool.

I’m telling you–indie is dead. Accidental lameness is what’s the now.

So how do you get the #normcore look? What can you do to seem cool?

    Normcore

Here are some tips to get that virtual-meta-core fashion without tipping the scales into trying-too-hard territory:

    1. Shop at freebie stores and buy texture clothing from your favorite shops. The older, the better. Seams are IN. Sport it without shame. You are the user who doesn’t live too much with their avatar, who flirts shamelessly with errors and a margin for the human element. Bonus if you find Chip Midnight’s clothing. Actually even his most recent stuff from Futurewave is still pretty #normcore, due to its self-awareness. Even his new mesh avatar is #normcore because it’s cyberpunk, and since we’re playing an online game, cyberpunk = webpunk. Actually, okay. All cyberpunk clothing is in. Ask Sian Pearl. She was actually in Novembre magazine recently (YOU NEED TO BUY THAT ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS SO NORMCORE IT IS TOO COOL FOR YOU AND SHE IS THE COOLEST AVATAR IN SECOND LIFE CURRENTLY. NO THIS IS NOT A JOKE.  THIS REALLY HAPPENED.).

    2. Ruth your hair. Yes, that’s right. Ruth it. Ruth it all day long. If you aren’t brave enough, just use old sculpt hair. Buy old hair from B@re Rose in a funky color, or old Nylon outfitters creations. Boom! #normcore at your front door. You are so cool without realizing it.

    3. Don’t flaunt it. Don’t go overboard. It’s okay to sport SOME mesh stuff, just don’t go completely there or else it’s like you’re doing too much. You want a little retro for your look or else hel-lo, 2now4us.

    4. Don’t wear an AO. AO’s are for people into their avatars. Are you into your avatar if you’re #normcore? No. You are not.

Now you’ve been transformed, go into Edit mode and stay that way forever. Your arms held out like Moses parting the sea, you’ve opened a path into the future, a personal virtual sidewalk that paves the way into your #nowness forever. You are the dream of the forever online young adult searching for meaning in their life. Engage. Move foreward. Never look back, or you’ll turn into salt.

    #foreveronline,
    Cake.

    Normcore

    What I’m Wearing
Random Freebie Store – Black PVC Jacket
    Pink Fuel Skin
Hair by CM – Hanging Front Curls
Mon Tissu – Denim – 1929 Cigarette (Gray)

    RFL Halfway There Fair

I’m posting this for my friend Wilma because she’s awesome, and wants your support during the RFL Halfway There Fair this Sunday (tomorrow).

    — cut & pasted from Wilma —

This Sunday, June 1st the Relay for Life of Second Life will be holding its Halfway There Fair. During this fun event, my team, The Relay Rockers will be raising funds as part of this effort.

One of our main fund raisers is “Bid Me Bald”. Volunteers agree to shed their hair for $L5000 a day donation for RFL.

On Sunday from 6 am – 10 am SLT A Relay for Life Kiosk (benefiting American Cancer Society) will be set up just for me and my hair! At the end of the day, the total raised will cut off my hair, for L$5,000 per day. If L$10,000 is raised, I gotta go bald for 2 days. If L$35,000 is raised, I’m bald for a week. If I’m caught wearing my hair during the time I’ve been bid bald, I will have to match the total donation!

I’m a bit of a shopaholic and I’ve more than contributed my part to the SL economy…so it’s your turn to give back!! I’m more than willing to go bald for any amount of time…if I collect L$70,000 …I’m not above being bald for 2 weeks in SL. I figure that I’m already bald in RL…may as well go for it in my Second Life too.

The Relay Rockers do this every Sunday from 5-7 at T1 Radio. Please come take part! http://relayrockers.t1radio.com

I’m a bit of a private person but I will tell you a bit about my reasoning for being so vocal about this project. I’m a cancer survivor! I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 2004. I went thru chemo and radiation…thinking it was all over and done with. But, this wasn’t to be. I was diagnosed a second time in July of 2007. I finished my chemo in late March. I’m finishing up with my radiation now and I fully intend on being around to spoil my grandbabies SOMEDAY. My son is 21 and a senior in college. I will be here to see those grandkids. I know that. I feel it in my heart.

I think it is amazing at what we can do when we pull together and work towards the goal. SL RFL last year was one of the most touching things I’ve ever experienced. I’ve been involved with RFL for many years and I was just as touched at the Survivors Lap in SL as I was my first survivors lap in so called real world. I sat in front of my computer on a beautiful summer day…I sat there all day…couldn’t tear myself away from the computer screen. Everyone came together for the same cause. This is a beautiful thing!

Cancer is a horrible disease but it doesn’t have to be a death sentence. Don’t look at me like I’m sick or a patient..just look at me. ..I’m a mom..I’m a daughter..a sister …a wife…a friend..I am you. Cancer can happen to anyone. Let’s just find a cure.
Please join me at the Fair and be generous. Help us Remember, Celebrate and Fight Back against Cancer!

    Until there’s a Cure,

    Wilma Delgado

  1. For my sake, I considered the IKON eyes to be your “signature eyes” and the most “Gogo-y”. Yes, “Gogo-y” is a word.

I first look for small irises, I have to have small irises and some designers don’t make them small enough. The Blessed Miriel did and I wore her eyes for years until I felt they looked to outdated and then I switched to IKON because they had small enough irises in some of the lines. Then I look for a green that is “me”. Once I find an eye that is “me” I don’t change it.

  2. Those Kmadd have some really gorgeous greens, I’ll definitely check them out! I always love trying new eyes (really liked MayFly’s last release). My favorite brand is still Ikon, and I’m absolutely crazy about their new Promise eyes. I love that you can adjust and resize them.

  3. I’ve been crazy about Ikon ever since I first learned about them here. Their new Promise eyes are the best I’ve ever seen in SL. I have not liked mesh eyes much – they never seem to fit me well, even with adjustments. I like a bit bigger iris. The small iris seems too beady-eyed to me. The Promise eyes are so soft and sweet.
