Blue Monday By Elle
This past Monday, the media reported extensively on a report by psychologist Cliff Arnall indicating Monday January 16th may be the Bluest Monday in a very long time. So what was Elle’s typist doing on that particular Monday? Well she was at home, sick and taking photos of her Second Life avatar!
I did not feel particularly blue emotionally but for sure I was feeling down physically. After being in Second Life for almost 10 years, I have found my avatars often are a reflection of myself in Real Life. Not necessarily say how Elle looks but in how I decorate Elle. When I am happy I tend to dress her in youthful, colorful clothes. In a moment when I am down, I might dress her in more dark, subdued tones. And on Monday, when these photos were taken, she was in a whole lot of black!Any who, just some random thoughts today. Details on Elle’s look can be found below. Good morning SL! I have a lot of things I want to blog about this week, but first I need to get this off my chest. I love mesh, and I don’t mind modifying my shape to fit, but I do mind having to reconstruct my whole body.
For example, I’ve been dying to wear this Breeze Kimono Jacket from Leverocci for a few weeks now. When I put the jacket on (in this case, a Medium), I found the shape bulky, especially around the shoulders. I could have worn a Small size, but it didn’t fit my waist, and parts of the kimono went into my waist. So I went with the next best size, Medium, which has a pretty decent fit — but it gave me broad shoulders, so I modified my shape and made my shoulder-width 10 points less on the slider. Also, my boobs didn’t fit, so I had to decrease that by a lot (to 40 points). Even though this jacket is adorable, you’d have to ‘work’ pretty hard to wear it. I also found that it shifts around a bit (rigged badly) when I change my poses.
I’ve always been very open to modding my shape to fit mesh clothing, but not so much for hair.
When I tried on this Flint hairstyle from Ploom, even with the alpha, it didn’t fit at all. The alpha took out too much around the forehead, and still didn’t fix the sides showing. The picture below actually shows the good side, the other side poked through a lot more! Usually I’ll mod my forehead to fit mesh hair, if my forehead shows through the hair, but I don’t like touching my head shape overall. It required too many sliders tweaking to get a balanced look.

After I talked to a couple of friends about not wanting to mod my head shape, two of whom told me that my head is too round, I decided to elongate my face a lil bit, to see if I can “fit into” this hairstyle. My new head shape fits the hair better, but I also still couldn’t use the alpha that came with the ploom hair, so I found something from another brand that took the sides out. I think this new head shape still looks like “me,” only a lil bit longer and less round.
Anyway, I can live with making reasonable modifications to fit mesh items, but I know that many people would not make a single tweak. There are some brands in SL that fits right out of the box, so I tend to stick with them.

A couple of days ago I was hanging around at La Reve spying on a dancing couple. The girl was wearing this beautiful hair so I inspected it and ran to Analog Dog to get some! Inspect is an awesometastic feature!
How to inspect?
Right click on any attachment, the pie menu comes up –> Click More -> More -> Inspect
This allows you to see creator name and item name, without having to ask people where their hair/shoes/skirt comes from.
Anyways.. onto the hair! This is the Milli style from Analog dog. I bought the Milli light pack which includes FIVE different shades of blonde!!!! Sepia, Platinum, Fall, Blonde, and Bleached. I’m wearing Sepia in these photos, and I think the texturing is beeeeeeeeeautiful!!

Depth of Field
A couple of days ago, I was playing around with the new Depth of Field feature available in the Project Viewer: Mesh (beta) and I really really really love it. It is automatically enabled if you download the right client – I followed Melanie’s Depth of Field tutorial, so check it out if you want to play around with DoF. This tutorial is for SL viewers not TPVs (Third Party Viewers); I always prefer to use the SL clients whenever possible cos more people use it.
These pics are kinda fuzzy cos I forgot to turn my image quality slider to high (oops!) – but you can see the background is blurred, that’s all from SL with no Photoshopping. I looove shiny new features to play with, thank you Lindens!
Coastal Living
Hello from my new Linden Home! I am in love with the sweet little Alderley Traditional Linden Home. This home has a small footprint and not many rooms to decorate, cos I don’t have that many prims!
I decided I wanted a pastel cottage for this coastal home, and the only way to achieve that is with a shell or an add-on.
