Notes From Cake's Desk

This is a small update to say–I got a pretty big award this weekend!

Established in 2004, The Joe Shuster Awards are Canada’s national award recognizing outstanding achievement in the creation of comic books, graphic novels and webcomics. The awards are named after pioneering Toronto-born artist Joe Shuster who, along with writer Jerry Siegel, created the iconic super-powered hero, Superman. The name is used with the approval of the Estate of Joe Shuster – Michael Catron, Estate Agent.

I am among several winners this past weekend of the Joe Schuster Award, for my contribution to the Wayward Sisters Anthology. Other winners of the award this year include Chip Zdarsky and Emily Carroll.

Wayward Sisters was also nominated for an Ignatz Award, but we lost (understandably) to The Nib. If I had to lose to anyone, I’m proud it was The Nib. They’re a powerhouse of political comics and have a pretty big presence online. Some of their artists have been publishing comics since I was a kid!

I’m finishing up work on my next project, which is hitting Kickstarter on the 20th of this month. Talk soon about that!
