Hello from Starlight Skies! This is my friend Sparkle’s Linden Home that she turned into a magical sparkly forest. She was able to accomplish a lot on a prims budget! Depending on what happens with region pricing once Linden Lab is fully on the cloud; we might bring back some of our regions. I’m ready to do a beach region and park it next to Sparkle’s sparkly forest.

Clothing Fair 2009 ends today, so if you haven't gone yet, take a quick fly around because there are some limited edition items and besides, it's for a good cause! Well, some of it anyways! I made a rule for myself that I would only purchase items inside RFL vendors so the proceeds would go to charity, but that was so hard this year! Unlike last year, I have even more stuff so I didn't want more of the same items.
I did purchase the fantastic *tal* RFL Limited Edition Marishka silk outfit which I love. It's silks, but not revealing at all, there are actual pants!! I saw these on Sai Pennell's blog entry and she I thought hmm… that's cute so I purchased one, and it looks even better in person!!
And I did break my own rule about purchasing from RFL vendors only when I stumbled into Haven Designs and spotted the yummy white Dara Silks outfit on the wall. I really dig these outfits because they're revealing but unlike other silks where it's literally just 1 piece of long flexi covering the crotch, these look like they could be the traditional costumes of some sexy tribal women.

Inspired by Philip’s journey in transforming his avatar in Second Life, I decided to embark on creating a male avatar. How difficult could it be? I felt quite nervous, as I hadn’t made a male avatar in over a decade. I have lots of knowledge about female fashion, but I am not well-versed in male fashion, aside from knowing that if I ever created a male alt, he would wear Deadwool. I have always thought Deadwool was perfection, so I made a male avatar just to wear it.
I created my alt last month during the Thanksgiving holiday, tried on a bunch of demos, and then logged out because I wanted to wait for the free LeLutka head. I had a general idea of which body I wanted to buy, and it would definitely be one of the bodies supported by Deadwool. Last night, I logged in again and decided it was time to give my newly created alt a makeover.
Meet George. Yes, that’s right; he is named after Gorgeous (Gogo), and he’s quite the shopper. I gave my alt L$10,000 lindens to spend on his wardrobe. Since the LeLutka 12 Days of Christmas event was underway, I didn’t need to purchase a mesh head, which saved me some money. When making an avatar in Second Life, it’s important to have both a body and a head before making any additional decisions. I am wearing the free LeLutka Camden head, which also included a very nice skin. Normally, I am quite picky about skins, but after trying a couple of free gifts from brands in the 12 Days of Christmas event, I thought that the default skin was the nicest. I wanted George to have manly vibes rather than look like Gogo’s twin; some of the other brands were simply too pretty.
With the head sorted, I needed to choose a body. I can’t recall why I opted for the Signature Gianni body over the Belleza Jake body, but it cost me L$3,900, which accounted for the majority of my budget. Deadwool supported Belleza, Gianni, and Legacy bodies, if I remember correctly. I opted not to purchase the Legacy body because it requires enabling media in Second Life for the HUD to function.
The remainder of my budget was spent on Deadwool clothing, with the most expensive item being the L$2,590 fatpack of Dean Jeans from Deadwool. I wanted a specific color in the fatpack, meaning George will have to wear these jeans forever since they were expensive.
The most challenging aspect of creating a male avatar was finding a suitable hairstyle. I have always loved Wings hair, so I visited the store and, for the first time, tried on male Wings hair. Last night was a night of firsts for me; I experienced multiple new things, such as trying on a male LeLutka mesh head and purchasing from Deadwool. I also felt insecure about my height, as many male avatars I encountered were significantly taller.
My friend suggested that I visit the Man Cave event, because the brands there are giving away lots of gifts for this round. I was already at Man Cave last month gathering demos, as it is one of the events that caters specifically to men. It seems this will become my go-to event for George whenever I want him to go shopping. If you know of any other similar events, please let me know in the comments! I’m a freebies junkie, so I grabbed a bunch of gifts and actually found a really nice suit, a couple of free tops, and some very usable cosmetics.
Initially, I was anxious about creating a male avatar, as I did not want him to resemble Gogo or appear as though he was made by a woman, although that might be inevitable. To minimize the similarities, I chose a tan skin and darker hair for my alt. The entire process turned out to be easier than I anticipated; everything came together in just one night. I think my experience with Second Life fashion (for women) helped, as the underlying concepts remain the same. I will try not to overthink the details, because I think George turned out really nice for now. Alting can be costly, but now I might be able to take the photos I want with Gogo, featuring outfits I want to showcase without relying on someone else’s help.

Fashion for Life is happening now through March 20th. I checked out a list of the shops on all 10 sims, and went to two cos they had brands I wanted to check out. I’m feeling too lazy these days to run around all 10 sims, so I’ll leave that to others.
I picked up the Lucy Lace top & Wrap Mini Skirt outfit (in exclusive Mint color for FFL) cos I love these two G-Field items so much! I already have the tops in all the other colors & the skirt in Pink, so Mint was a nice addition. I also paired this outfit with the new Long Cuff Boots (Mesh); it’s sooo gorgeous. POSEUR has released the new Lil Posey set that includes 10 sexy poses and a scripted pose stool. The pose stool is scripted to color change the draped cloth and easily switch between the different poses via a menu.

I’m not really looking for any new home & garden decor, so I didn’t plan on going to Home and Garden Expo. Then, I read Gidge’s less than favorable review of the event — Why Does The H & G Expo Make It SO Hard To Shop There? and was glad I didn’t have to go. However, I’m a sucker for a sweet Pink cottage, and when I saw pictures of the Hope Cottage by Dorian (Dorian Meredith), I fell in love.
I thought navigation was going to be a pain, but it was actually very easy and enjoyable. Using the handy list posted here, I found Dorian on Home Expo sim 4 (direct SLurl). Once I landed, I found the teleport board, clicked on the Dorian logo and arrived right in front of the house pictured above. I’m somewhere in the picture, can you spot me?
The Hope Cottage is $600L and inside an RFL vendor, so I think some or all of the proceeds are donated to charity. What a steal for this amazing lil’ cottage! I don’t know if it is limited edition, so you should probably go get it, just in case it is not available after the event.
Inside the cottage, is a $10L matching fireplace (hunt item), get that too!
My Home and Garden Expo coverage is brief, but I really wanted to write about this before the event ends. Also, when I went this morning, it was completely lag free and with just a few people on the sim. Everyone must be at The Arcade, so hurry, check out the Expo!
LeLutka and Vive9 gave out skins this week and they make me so happy!! Even though I have more skins than anyone one avatar deserves, I still get excited every time skin makers give away their awesome skins!
LeLutka gave group members 3 makeups in one skin tone each and all options. I’m wearing the LeLutka – IFElight-VAMP(D Brows). Isn’t it stunning? There’s no excuse to run around in newbie skin when you can STILL grab this in the Lelutka group in-world.
I typically hate joining paid groups, but the Vive9 Clothing & Beauty group ($150 join fee) gave group members a preview pack of the Marianne II skin in all skin tones & all options. This includes with teeth (gross!) and without teeth (yay!) as well as freckles and no freckles options. I think the face is very sweet.
