You may have seen Second Life creators selling images made with Midjourney, but what is it? Midjourney is a computer program that uses artificial intelligence to make pictures based on text prompts. At the moment, the bot on Discord is the only way to use Midjourney. I paid $10 a month to play around with the program. It’s a lot of fun to have AI make anything you can think of right away, but sometimes the results are weird.
Most of the images I’ve made are based on my Second Life avatar. I use a photo of my avatar as a reference, then I add a text prompt to try to make something more detailed than what I can do in Second Life or in photoshop.
I’ve seen some amazing results from Midjourney, but I haven’t been able to get them myself. From what I’ve seen of Midjourney so far, the results are random but also similar when people use the same words.
I’m unimpressed with how quickly Second Life creators are replacing original art with art made by AI. Midjourney doesn’t require much artistic skill if done via text prompt without adding your own photos as a reference. In fact, anyone can make art that is nice enough. I’ve made images that I could never draw on my own, but I don’t think of them as my art or original at all.
How do you feel about Midjourney? Do you like it when creators sell those images in Second Life? Let me know in the comments!
i do not like it when people sell AI images as their own. i think it is cheating. but unless the AI files a DMCA i guess it is open season.
