Second Life residents were feeling a mix of emotions after Linden Lab announced that the new mobile app for Second Life would only be available exclusively on iOS Apple devices. While some residents were thrilled to be able to access Second Life on their beloved devices, others are feeling sour. Windows and Android users expressed their dismay, with one resident exclaiming, “This is the ultimate betrayal! I’m heartbroken!”
“I’m so mad that I can’t use the app. I’ve been waiting for an app for years,” says MissNaughty210663. “This isn’t fair!”
“I just don’t understand why they would limit the app to iOS users,” another resident commented. “It’s like they don’t even care about the rest of us on Windows!”
“I can’t believe Linden Lab only made this app for Apple users. What about us Android users? We don’t exist?” said NotJo Daddy. “Apple products are not inclusive. Now I’m feeling forced to be a member of Second Life’s Fruit Club!”
“It’s a great time to be a fruit fan! iOS has so many great features, and the app is going to be amazing!”

In response to the criticism, Linden Lab management defended their decision, saying that the integration of iOS technology is the best way to guarantee the best user experience. However, many residents remain unhappy with the decision and are desperately hoping that the app will eventually be available for other operating systems. When asked why the exclusivity, management said that they hope to include other Operating Systems eventually, but their contract with Apple has a minimum time requirement.
“We love all our residents equally, regardless of their Operating System,” said Apri Linden, “At first, we were hesitant when Apple approached us, but the data they presented made sense, and we decided iOS was the perfect fit for a large scale launch. We believe iOS offers a superior user experience with mobile applications, and we’re big fans of Apple here at Linden Lab.”

“Plus,” added Melon Linden, “It’s a great time to be a fruit fan! iOS has so many great features, and the app is going to be amazing!”
The news of the iOS mobile app sparked a huge uproar on the Second Life forum, resulting in three threads being locked. Many Second Life users were concerned that Apple would use the data gathered from the app to build their metaverse and compete with Linden Lab.
