The Maitreya Lara body is nearly a decade old and it’s still going strong. Despite other bodies on the grid looking quite good, I’m kind of loyal to the Maitreya body because I like the body shape and the HUD. If you own the Lara body, wear the HUD and hit the redelivery button to get the free update.
So what’s all the rage about LaraX? My first impression is that I really like the new smaller shoulders. The other updates are not that noticeable to me, so even though Maitreya says to consider this a whole new body, it’s basically the same body with some tweaks. However, the change is enough that most items created for Lara will no longer fit. You can always switch back and forth between the two body versions as needed.
The mesh of the LaraX body is also smoother and more defined. The geometry has a better flow, resulting in a rounder and softer body. LaraX has:
- Rounder wrists and ankles
- Thinner wrists
- Reshaped shoulders
- More defined groin area
- Reshaped arms
Because of these changes to the weights and to the mesh, content made for Lara will most often not fit LaraX. LaraX should be considered a new body, requiring content that has been made in her specific size and with her specific weights.
We will keep offering the original Lara body (V5.3) alongside the LaraX body. They will come together in the package. So that you can switch between them according to your needs.

What’s included in the Maitreya Mesh Body LaraX package? A lot! I was pleasantly surprised to find mesh lingerie from Addams, Blueberry, and Velour included. There are also body parts mods included for Appliers and Bakes on Mesh (BoM).
If you want to, you can try Lara outfits on LaraX and adjust your body or see if it fits well enough to wear. I adjusted the sliders on my shape to fit into this Ricielli Sophie outfit. Although it fits alright when I’m standing still, the mesh starts to clip when I change poses or move around.
My friend said to me, “check out the butt jiggle!” So I played one of my favorite dances from Paragon and saw no butt jiggle. I guess there might be some jiggle there, but Gogo just doesn’t have that kind of assets, lol!

Lara 5.3 is good! LaraX is a nice upgrade! The shoulders seem better and the butt is still cute. I won’t run out and search for new LaraX clothes to wear since I like Lara 5.3 and my 5.3 clothes. But it will be fun to buy LaraX clothes going forward. The best way to see the differences is to dance in your underwear! 😛
I was excited for LaraX as I exclusively still wear the Lara 5.3 and who doesn’t love that it is given out to us for free? It is disappointing that going forward most designers will be discontinuing clothing for 5.3 in favor of the X. I understand why but it means that everything I own will essentially become extinct. I haven’t tried the LaraX yet, but do we know if shoes are still compatible with 5.3?
Shoes are compatible if they don’t go too far above the ankle.

This body has adjustments (improvements) to the mesh, so it will not fit old Maitreya Lara clothing. You can choose to wear it, or you can choose to keep wearing the old body. Or you can do both, you don’t have to STOP wearing your OLD clothing, but you can also buy LaraX going forward. You’re getting a free update, what’s to complain about?
