I tried out Firestorm Zero so you don’t have to! Unfortunately, you can’t anyway, because Linden Lab sold streaming hours for only half a day before pulling the plug on it. So now they’re just not available. If you purchased some hours, you can still use those, but who knows when they will be back for sale. I reluctantly bought some hours just in case I wanted the option available in the future, and I wanted to try it out and compare it to Second Life Zero.
For those who may not know, Zero is the web browser version to access Second Life. The free version can be accessed through zero.secondlife.com, while the paid version can be found at zero.secondlife.com/fs (a lite version of the Firestorm viewer). I noticed right away that some of the latest Firestorm features were missing, but it is an acceptable version if you need to log in and explore.
I burned 30 minutes of my 20 streaming hours to make this video! I logged in with the goal of taking a photo, adjusting EEP settings, and experimenting with camera smoothing for video purposes. However, I struggled to turn off the UI, as the browser viewer did not respond to the keyboard shortcuts. Update! I found out how to turn off the UI. You can go through the menu and turn it off, or press Alt+Shift+U on your keyboard. But after I turned it off, I could not turn it back on, so I logged off.
Since we cannot save photos to a local drive on the browser viewer, I attempted to email a photo to myself. At high resolutions, it did not work. Finally, I selected the 1024 size photo, and it indicated that it was successful, but I did not receive the photo in my email. The browser experience also seemed quite pixelated to me, which gave me a headache towards the end.
Overall, Zero (and ZeroFS) is acceptable, but logging onto both versions remains a struggle. Linden Lab needs to address these issues if they are serious about offering browser streaming as a way to access Second Life.
Have you tried accessing Second Life through the browser? Let me know your thoughts!

RLV runs lots of things other than what you all are thinking and it didn’t work on my height and sitting adjustment. I had trouble camming as I just spun around. It was way better than the telephone version, is it possible that’s what it’s for, the phone? On a terrible computer it would look ok but on my desktop it was inferior to signing into Firestorm. Didn’t have a lot of time to try more .
I have to use Zero.Secondlife daily and struggle to get logged in to it. It keeps saying there is alot of people trying it out right now and that I should try later. I’m using a Chromebook and this is like my only option to playing a game I’ve been on for 13+ years now. I’ve found that the UI and Interface is workable and that it get’s the job done. The only issue I seem to have sometimes, is when I’m logged in on the free version -_- I’m trying to Roleplay on Pandemonium or DJ my sets or do my Live Performances and the window reloads into my SL account page and then the struggle bus begins again of trying to get relogged back in and it’s like damn why is it doing this.
Because it’s an *early access test version* that is incomplete, just to gauge the performance of streaming SL from their servers (with many many GPUs doing the heavy lifting instead of your local machine). It’s not meant to be used seriously at this point, and is still under a lot of development. If you read the post on Project Zero, you’d know that you are limited to about an hour at a time. So long-term roleplaying or DJing makes no sense at this point. https://community.secondlife.com/news/featured-news/browser-based-access-to-second-life-limited-testing-begins-today-r1559/
