I’m disappointed by Second Life’s latest Premium membership price increase.
What makes this change difficult for me to accept is that the core benefits haven’t really changed. The stipend is the same. The land allowance is the same. While there are some additional perks and gifts being added, they’re not benefits that I personally value enough to justify paying more each year.
Whenever a company raises prices, I take a look at my spending and decide what’s still worth keeping. That’s exactly what I’m doing now. Over the years, I’ve accumulated several Premium accounts, mostly to hold extra Linden Homes. After thinking about it, I’ve decided I don’t really need all of them. I’ll be keeping the two accounts that I previously upgraded to Lifetime Premium Plus, but the extra accounts are becoming much harder to justify.
The same goes for land. I’ve acquired quite a bit of mainland recently, and this price increase has me reevaluating how much I actually need versus how much I’ve simply gotten used to having.
One thing about me is that I’m usually willing to spend money on Second Life. I enjoy supporting the platform, and I’ve never been afraid to invest in the things I love. But I also believe it’s important to periodically review our subscriptions and spending habits, especially when prices go up.
If you’re maintaining multiple Premium accounts, now might be a good time to ask yourself whether you’re getting enough value from each one. Do you really need that extra Linden Home? Do you use all of the benefits you’re paying for? Maybe the answer is yes. For me, the answer was no.
At the end of the day, every resident has to decide what makes sense for their own budget. My decision is to scale back a little. Not because I’m leaving Second Life or because I suddenly dislike the platform, but because I don’t think every account I currently pay for is worth the new price.
Sometimes the most effective feedback we can give isn’t posting on the forums or arguing on social media. It’s simply reevaluating our subscriptions and spending accordingly.

I agree. Its almost a complete waste of money now. We’re actually paying money for the privilege of buying pixel clothes and mixing with mentally ill ppl
First, those burgers look really good! Can I have one??
Second, yes, I think you’re right. I was shocked by the email, “Hello, we’re raising the price of Premium by 20%!” That’s a huge increase!
At the same time LL made another huge increase to the cost of buying L$ on top of the huge increase of a couple years ago. Throw in things like US$50 for a last name, and I think the pattern is clear:
1. LL has decided that they Can’t, Don’t know how to, or Won’t, gain any significant body of new users for the SL platform.
2. And, that the core of True Believers like you and me, are willing to pay quite a lot of money for this special world.
I agree with you that it is worth paying for things you value. Not everything can be “free” and that’s not a sustainable model for many things. Still, the huge increases in L$ buy fees or the huge increase in Premium, or the huge price of buying a last name all signify to me that LL has abandoned any hope of acquiring new users and is content to squeeze ever more blood out of the turnip of True Believers.
I do love SL and have very little interest in most other worlds. I’m not a gamer and those experiences don’t speak to me. The freedom and flexibility of SL (or it’s “boringness” if you are a gamer!) are special and singular. So, like you, I have no plans to leave. But as you say, it is worth looking at what I’m spending on and cut back as the LL price gun continues to churn out ever higher prices for everything.
I cant see me renewing next year. The conversation rate I’d be paying is a lot for me.
The extra gifts they announced are absolute garbage and I could do with out. They are not even wearables. They are things I would NOT pick up EVER. They add 0 extra value.
I want more prims for my LH. I want more group space. They should offer add ons we can pay for to customize our own premium subscription.
LL is a sinking ship. Everything is a money grab lately and they are not improving the user experience. Even their standard view is garbage. Almost everyone uses an alternate viewer.
