SL20B Sweepstakes Winners

SL20B National Sweepstakes

The Second Life SL20B Sweepstakes saw the majority of its prizes being won by residents from the United States, with the grand prize being a 2023 Chevy Bolt EV car valued at $27,495 USD. This drew resentment from residents living outside the U.S., as the value of the prizes were not equal for all. To prevent this issue in the future, prizes should be equal in value for all residents, as well as ensuring that enough kiosks are available to avoid a ‘busy’ error when too many people are clicking at once.

I emailed the sweepstakes company to get a list of winners. If you would like to request that list, the details on how to get it are available on the contest website.

Genus Project 2.0 Update

Genus Baby 2.0

I was not waiting for the Genus Project mesh head update because I haven’t worn it since the end of 2020. Then I saw a notice recently that there was an update, so I wondered if all of the previous issues with the HUD and eyes were resolved. When I first tried on the Genus Project Baby mesh head back in April 2019, I liked it a lot and it became my main head for over a year, even though it had issues from the start! Those issues were never updated, so eventually customers and brands flocked to other brands.

Glam Affair Skin

Left: Glam Affair Skin – Feoui | Right: with BoM tattoos added

The new Feoui skin from Glam Affair Skin is one of the cleanest skin I’ve ever seen from the brand, it comes without heavy shading on the face (especially Glam’s signature one side of the nose is more shaded than the other side). I’m not a fan of that, but I get why some skin designers are doing it to give the face more depth or simulate shadows, but it’s so awkward in normal lighting. When I tried on this Feoui skin, I was pleasantly surprised it’s so clean! I still ended up adding a bunch of BoM layers to the face to remove blush, change eyelids, and and few touches to make it more Gogo.

Gather & Nest

Welcome to another Previously in Second Life post!

On August 1st, I launched Gather & Nest, your guide to Linden Homes & Land in Second Life. This is a blog and community site, be sure to follow us on Discord and X (formerly Twitter) Community for all the latest news.

Here are some interesting news around the grid you may have missed:

Senra Beta Avatars

Wearing Exile – Insomnia hair

Senra is here! When I showed you the NUX Senra Avatars on me two weeks ago, I did not edit the shape or wore anything in my inventory (because I had none on the beta grid).

Second Life announced the Senra Beta Avatars are now available to everyone via the library and a starter avatar web page with options for new users. After playing around with the shape and trying on two old system skins that I didn’t delete from my inventory, I decided to just wear the included Senra Jamie skin. Don’t even try to retrofit old skins or clothing, it’ll leave you feeling deep sadness.

Voguel Skin

Sweet

Are you into hyper-realistic skins in Second Life? I normally wear smooth skins without imperfections, but then I visited Voguel and found a new skin that’s just adorable, even with pores and freckles! The imperfections really adds character, and it’s not too much, it’s still very soft and pretty. I’m wearing the Voguel Mia skin in Chantilly 2 skin tone. This tone matches well with a Pink Fuel body skin, or you can wear Velour (but I have not found a Velour skin tone that I like yet).

Senra Jamie, Second Life NUX Avatar

Senra Jamie, Second Life NUX Avatar

Meet Jamie, one of two Senra avatars coming soon to Second Life. These are the New User Experience (NUX) avatars created by Second Life for new residents. They come with a mesh body, mesh head, skins, eyes, hair, shoes, clothing, and a basic animation override.

The Senra avatars (Jamie and Blake) briefly appeared in the Library on the main grid and are now gone again. I recalled that the beta grid lags behind the main grid, so I logged on there in search of Jamie, and I found her in the Library. I had an authentic new user experience because my inventory was empty, so I had to make do with Library items.
