Weekend Vibes

Weekend Vibes

Step into a charming little world within Second Life, where every accessory whispers a story of cuteness. The Anthology event is back, offering a collection of delightful items for you to discover. I’m holding the enchanting Explorer Cat Backpack by Aardvark, featuring an animated kitten that brings the backpack to life. Customize it with the included HUD that lets you pick different cats and accessories, and color the backpack to your liking.

Also awaiting you is the Ducklin’ Toseds cup from Comatosed, inspired by a popular real-world brand, complete with little fish that swim around inside. You can change the cup’s color and the type of fish swimming in it, all thanks to a customizable HUD.

Discover NeutralTones, a brand new to me, with their Special Friend Tshirt. It looks deceptively simple, but the detail is spot-on, from the realistic folds to the HUD that allows you to choose between two cute friends and a variety of shirt colors.

Laundry Day

Laundry Day

Sunday has rolled around again, which means it’s time for chores like laundry. In Second Life, I don’t often choose lingerie, but when I do, I prefer Bakes on Mesh for easy layering. They’re great for layering under other clothes to keep my look tasteful.

I’ve also made a point of wearing actual underwear lately, instead of just turning on the alpha on my pelvis.

Recently, I picked up a charming Nyla bra and panties set from Ison, and guess what? It’s a group gift, and joining the Ison group is free! When I first wore this set, I noticed the nipple area was quite prominent. But no worries — I just used the Bakes on Mesh add-ons from Maitreya and everything looked much smoother.

BoM Add-ons

It’s pretty interesting in Second Life how some clothes really go into detail in certain areas, if you get what I mean! Thankfully, some thoughtful designers offer solutions to soften those details.

Friday

Friday

Happy Friday, everyone in Second Life! I’m excited about this new set of poses I found. The Erin pose & anim pack from Goyo comes with cute headphones, perfect for enjoying music or snapping fun photos. What I appreciate most is that each pose has an animation, plus a flipped version. However, I did notice my fingers were not positioned perfectly in some poses, which made me tweak them using the poser in the Black Dragon viewer. It’s not my usual viewer, but it’s pretty useful for these adjustments.

Ever put on a skin and felt like it could use a bit more shine? I found this Highlighter set by Izzie’s that offers lots of options to add a nice glow to your skin. The skin that I’m wearing, Emery from Glam Affair, already looked good, but I couldn’t resist adding a bit more highlight to areas like the eyes, forehead, and the area just above the lip.

Anthology

Anthology

I went to checked out Anthology, a new event, that starts on the 19th of each month. It’s like stepping into a slice of pastel-colored Italy with Italian-esque storefronts and staircases connecting different levels. It’s a lively setup, giving off that festive theme park energy but in a virtual setting.

Anthology

With Anthology making its grand entrance, I felt it was only fitting to dress the part. I picked out the Eostre Dress from Enfant Terrible, which comes in both sheer and opaque options. The best part? The dress includes a HUD that lets you play with the colors of almost everything—the straps, petals, skirt, and even the underskirt. I chose the sheer version, which manages to be both sophisticated and appropriately modest thanks to the underskirt.

Anthology

No ensemble’s complete without a little sparkle. That’s where the Kirana Armlets from Michan come in. They perfectly match the dress, and with the customizable HUD, you can change the metals, the jewels, and even hide certain parts of the armlet for a more personalized look. It’s got me thinking I should step up my game and wear long dresses with ornate jewelry more often.

Sunday Coffee Date

Neve

Hello from Second Life! I’m really loving my outfit today with its soft colors, and even better, I got it on sale! I’m all geared up for a laid-back coffee date.

I’m refreshing my wardrobe with Maitreya LaraX items, moving on from the old Lara model. I’m trying to shop smarter this time, knowing that these virtual clothing might not last forever as new bodies come out. Good news is, lots of LaraX clothes are up for grabs at low prices over the weekend, so reinventing your look doesn’t have to cost a lot.

Neve
Neve – Smart Top | with Alpha turned on (yes, I’m wearing a BOM bra underneath)

I’ve realized why I rarely wear pants here: many are too long and impossible to find shoes that fit without intersecting with the pants leg. But, Neve’s got these ankle-length Scale Pants on sale that solve that problem. They have a HUD that lets you change how long they are, choose different belt looks or just go without one. There’s a small thing though — the belt loop shadow stays even when you choose just the belt (without loop) option. Might be a little mistake?

Pepe Skins
Pepe Skin – Delina V2 (Cake) skin with lots of tattoo makeup fixes

Wow, tattoo makeup layers are amazing! So I snagged Pepe Skins’ new Delina skin over the weekend for a sweet L$100 deal. This skin is incredibly gorgeous, and it hardly needed any tweaks on my part. Included with the skin is a neck blend that stretches down to the cleavage – not totally my thing, so I just used Velour’s no-cost body neck fix to seamlessly merge the face and body skins.

Let me tell you, layering can get tricky, but when you nail it, it feels like magic. It’s all about the right sequence and a bit of hue play to get that perfect match. Personally, I opt for a lighter base layer and then enrich it with deeper shades – it’s always easier to darken than to lighten.

Tattoo Makeup Layers:

  • Velour – Body Neckfix (Icy) Evo X
(tinted to match body, free @ Velour store)
  • Glam Affair – Face Shadow 20%
(included with some GA skins previously)
  • Glam Affair – Face Shadow (Ears) 20%
(If you use the Face Shadow, use the ears layer too)
  • Amara Beauty – Amalia Lipstick Evo X (Nude)
(to cover up the splotchy dark middle of the lips)
  • Izzie’s – LeL Evo X – Eyeliner black A
  • Izzie’s – LeL Evo X – 04 blush / Contour Remover
  • Glam Affair – Rosie Brows Toner White
    (tinted brown)
  • Pepe Skins – Delina V2 / Cake NB
  • cheLLe – Powderpuff (Translucent 10)
(tinted to match Pepe’s cake tone / tip: put this layer underneath all of the face tattoo layers so that it only tints the body)

The charm of adding tattoo layers for me is that I’ve collected them over time. I wouldn’t even consider purchasing a skin that required me to invest in a whole new set of layers to get it right. And for L$100? This skin is a steal, looking fab even bare.

Uneven Breast Shading in Second Life Skins

It seems the skin scene in Second Life is undergoing some baffling changes when it comes to skin textures. I’m noticing designers are insisting on baking directional lighting effects right onto the skin, and it’s throwing the symmetry off balance. The most striking thing? This trend has migrated from faces down to the chest area. I got a taste of this with the latest Hera body skin from Not Found, which left my avatar’s breasts looking somewhat mismatched, a far cry from ideal.

Let me tell you, the difference in shading is quite noticeable. Whenever I come across a skin that’s not quite up to par, my go-to solution is to dash over to Izzie’s. She’s practically sainthood in the realm of virtual skin dilemmas, not just for her friendly attitude but for her lifesaving tattoo overlays that rectify the little quirks that drive me nuts. Izzie has conjured up an ingenious fix – a subtle shadow adjustment that works to balance out the tonal disparities.

New Year, New Body

New Year, New Body
The Skinnery – Luna BodySkin

For what feels like over ten years, the Pink Fuel body has been my absolute go-to. Somehow I managed to pair it successfully with a variety of bodies and mesh heads. Lately, skin creators seem to focus more on designing just head skins and suggest we find body skins from other brands like Velour. But I’ve kept up, even matching the most recent head skins to my trusted Pink Fuel body.

However, the other day, I felt the urge to try something new for my body skin. What I discovered was fascinating; Second Life brands have outdone themselves. The array of tattoo layer enhancements is staggering. They range from the usual details like wrinkles and body shadows to the more unique ones, including pregnancy looks and scars.

Wings

Wings
Wings hair from the 11.11 sale!

In China, November 11 is celebrated as Singles’ Day, originally a celebration for single people that has transformed into a major online retail event. Chinese consumers take advantage of discounts and promotions, making it the world’s largest shopping festival. Singles’ Day has expanded globally, showcasing the power of e-commerce.

For the past few years, Second Life brands have promoted 11/11 as a shopping event offering discounts to residents. It’s an opportunity for brands to capture the consumer spending market before the glut of Black Friday sales. This year, some of my favorite brands are participating in 11/11, so I took advantage of the discount to stock up on items I didn’t already own.

I was at Toksik to see if there was anything I wanted that I didn’t already own, but unfortunately, I already owned everything I wanted. Then my friend Sasy said, “You need to go to Wings… beautiful hair!” so I went and bought some hairstyles that I didn’t already own. I picked up six new hairstyles from Wings, with prices ranging from L$150-L$160 per hair color pack.
