    Mother Goose Esmeralda Skin

I’ve been seeing several people wear Mother Goose skin so I went to the store to check it out. I’m wearing one of the newest release, Esmeralda, and it’s very pretty at first glance but upon closer inspection, I feel that this skin needs a lot of work.

The skin tones are not given names, but numbers. I am wearing tone 2 and tone 3 – each skin tone comes with 4 makeups and also freckles version.

I’m very impressed with the freckles on these! They’re subtle and complements the skin tone perfectly. I also like the no-freckles version too.

Here are some things this skin does NOT do well…. there are seams all over the legs, arms, and torso (pretty much everywhere). That’s bad. Seams are bad! Some seams you can live with, some you can’t… if it’s pretty much all over, that is sloppy. I also think the textures is sloppy throughout, here are some examples below:

When it comes to skin texture, I truly believe that less is more. If you put too much or don’t blend it well enough, the area looks like skin disease or something. It is not a nice effect at all.

I’ve seen some pretty ugly toes in SL, but I’ve never seen toes that don’t extend all the way. These toes are not ugly, but the texture needs to be extended further so it doesn’t look gross (odd) when you wear flip-flops or open-toed shoes.

The Esmeralda skins from Mother Goose costs $1,000L per pack of 4 or $300L each. These skin are pretty and I wish they were done with more attention to details. Hopefully the creator will improve the future releases because right now, I feel that with these.. “you get what you pay for” which is average or slightly below average skins for a cheap price. They’re like cheap shoes, it’s great to wear for a little while but they don’t really hold up to well.

    Kellycrowed, stop it.

I think that the SL community is trusting, and most people will just take your word that you are, who you say you are. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible due to some people misrepresenting themselves.

Recently, I’ve read more and more stories about avatars claiming to be the alt of known bloggers, affiliated with established blogs, or outright claiming to be a store manager for brands they do not work for, in order to scam people out of money or receive freebies from unsuspecting designers.

My friend Melanie had to deal with one person named kellycrowed resident, repeatedly scraping her blog content and telling designers that he/she blogged on Grid Expectations.

I have linked to Melanie’s post about kellycrowed, along with a post about The DNA of Fraud on Shopping Cart Disco, so you guys can read about it and be aware of this new scam!

All right, I only just started blogging again and already some jerk has been going around contacting designers and pretending that he is my fellow blogger on this website. His name is kellycrowed and he also uses the name/display name Kid Dope.

Kid Dope does not blog here

A recent rash of  complaints on Plurk, Flickr and other fora detail the proliferation of requests for promotional or review copies coming from what appears to be one or more people with several alts who misrepresent who they are and where they blog. Creators report refusing one person and minutes later getting another solicitation identical down to the errors in syntax from a second person. It seems reasonable to assume they are the same person operating multiple alts. One creator mentioned getting a request every hour for eight hours. This is frustrating and tiresome.

    Juicy; Melinda Shape

    Juicy - Melinda Shape

I haven’t made a new shape in a few months, so I thought I would do one for this new Laqroki skin. I loved the way the face on this shape turned out; it’s really adorable and curvy in all the right places. I almost didn’t sell this shape after I made it, cos I wanted to keep her for myself! If you’re looking for a new look, check out the Melinda Shape from Juicy — style card is included!

Purchase this shape at Juicy in-world or on Marketplace.

    Blackout August

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/imogenaureliasl/54693223591/in/dateposted/

I stumbled across the Blackout August initiative created by Second Life resident Imogen Aurelia, and I’m honestly really into the idea.

    BLACKOUT AUGUST
A pause. A reset. A quiet rebellion against the noise.

We’re stepping back from constant shopping — not to punish creators, but to challenge a system that’s chewing up time, talent, and energy for less and less return.

    Creators are burned out.
    Shoppers are overwhelmed.
    💸 L$ are worth less.
    🌀 The loop is unsustainable.

So we’re unplugging — for a month — to breathe, explore, connect, and remember what Second Life used to feel like before it became just another sales feed.

    This isn’t a protest. It’s perspective.
    Not a ban — but a boundary.
    Not harm — but healing.

✨ Support sims. Tip artists. Host meetups.
    Style your inventory. Explore again.
Let SL be about experience, not exhaustion.

    Imogen Aurelia

Even though I love shopping in SL, I’m totally on board with taking a pause. A reset for 30 days to stop the constant cycle of buying, and just enjoy what I already have. Maybe even do something different in Second Life. What’s that something else? Hanging out with friends, exploring sims, playing a game. Just being present.

This isn’t about boycotting anyone. I love SL creators. I’ve been shopping and blogging for over 18 years. But even from the consumer side, I can feel the burnout. Creators are producing too much, too fast, and shoppers can’t keep up. I miss when a new release felt special for months, when we showed it off to friends and designers actually had time to enjoy the success of their work instead of rushing into the next release or discounting at a weekend sale.

If going 30 days without shopping feels impossible, you can still take part in a way that works for you. Maybe that means buying only the things you really love instead of grabbing everything just because it’s new or on sale. Personally, I’ve been buying less without even meaning to. My inventory is out of control — I’m at 93K now and trying hard not to hit 100K. I need this break just to organize and reset. That alone is a project.

Can you still enjoy SL without buying anything? Yes. Absolutely. Brands are always giving away gifts and store credit. Most of us have inventory full of unopened things. You can wear what you already have in a new color or styled differently. You can still support creators you love this month by wearing items that you already own.

Some people might say this kind of pause hurts the economy or puts creators at risk, but that’s a much bigger conversation. Most of us are just players. We’re not here to keep the grid economy afloat. I’ve spent years spending money in SL, and I’ll continue to support the creators I love, but I don’t believe it’s my responsibility to make sure everyone is earning. SL is a hobby for most of us. We engage with it how and when we want to.

So I’m trying out Blackout August. I might go the full 30 days, or maybe just a week here and there. But I’m doing it. You can too. Try it in a way that feels right for you. Let Second Life be fun again, not just a sales feed. Let’s breathe a little.

    Blackout August, Let's do this!
