    JM:MAI Dolly Nia Skins

JM:Mai has just released Dolly Nia skins and they're absolutely adorable. There are 9 makeups total, and each makeup includes a regular skin and a doll body version. These skins are perfect for playing a doll, so dust off those doll keys and drag out your favorite dress.

Shown above are some of the makeups available. Some skins have freckles and lots of blush or a cute band-aid on the face. As you can see the makeups are not wild, but really soft and there are lots of soft lipstick colors.

I really like the idea of a doll body especially for girls that like dressing up in lolita/doll outfits.

I am wearing one of Zaara's newest release, the Mrinali dress and a pair of Aoharu's newly released Ethnic Bijou Sandals. The style and gems on these sandals are so adorable, and goes perfectly with this dress.

    What I'm Wearing:

    JM:Mai – Dolly NIA skin
    Exile – Megan (Strawberry) hair
    Zaara – Mrinali (Blossom) dress
Honey Kitty – eating vanillla cake (necklace)
AOHARU – Ethnic Bijou Sandals (RoseQuartz)

    Don’t say it, emote it!

While the SL client does not have built-in emotions for our avatars to express themselves, there are free Emoters available in-world with over a dozen facial expressions. I rarely ever use it, but I find myself wanting to, every time I see screen captures from The Sims!!

The reason I think that most people don’t use Emoters is because it makes our avatars look more creepy than cute! And if you’re a prim-lash-wearing-addict like myself, the prim lashes stay in place and appears to be floating away from your avatar’s face rather than move along with the eyelids. Currently there’s no way to force prim lashes to move, but for photography you can edit them to fit each emotion and fake a perfect fit. 😛

I’m not a Photoshop genius, so I try to set up the shot as close to what I want as possible in-world.

    AOHARU by you.

    1. Press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+D, to bring up the Advanced client menu
    2. Go to Advanced -> Character -> Slow Motion Animations and click to enable it
(Slow Motion Animations is a feature that slows down animations on your client only, so others will not see this but it is useful when trying to capture dances, emotes, poses, etc.)
*note: Don’t forget to uncheck Slow Motion Animations once you’re done using it, otherwise animations will look too slow on your client.)

    3. Play with the random expressions on the Emoter and snap away!!

For the photograph above, I used a combination of "Mouth Open" and "Big Smile" to create a totally new facial expression! I haven’t experimented with all the expressions to see what "new" emotions I can create, but Slow Motion Animations is a great feature and lots of fun when combined with an Emoter HUD.

    AOHARU by you.

    Happy…

    AOHARU by you.

    Unhappy….

Where to get an Emoter HUD? I use the one that came with my MystiTool, but they’re free everywhere!! Ask someone you know, they might be able to pass you a copy. 😛

For this blog entry, I’ve tried to use lighting that has more shadows because the images are captured with scenery, rather than my usual prim background. Do you prefer photographs that are typical blog-style (see my Lighting Tutorial) or with more depth? I’ve been criticized for taking ‘flat’ photos because I eliminate all shadows when I blog items… so I’m really trying to experiment with other lighting!

    A typical Gogo-style blog photo:

    AOHARU by you.

    With Shadows:

    AOHARU by you.

I agree the 2nd photo makes SL look way better, because SL is beautiful!!!! <3 Windlight. But when I’m blogging skins I prefer well-lit images with no shadows.

    What I’m Wearing:

    AOHARU – SweetDressCoat (Pink)
    AOHARU – MultiColoredMoutonBoots (White)
    AOHARU – ArgyleSocks009
    ETD – Brittany hair
    GBL / *BOOM* – Muffuns
Gala – Classic – Blossom Skin

    Baby Doll

    Baby Doll

Oh Baby, baby! I was so excited when I found out that Truth created the BabyDoll hairstyle (inspired by the new SuckerPuch movie). I asked my friend Morphine Janick of Sweetest Goodbye to create a Baby Doll inspired outfit two or three weeks ago, and she finally did it!!! YAY, YAY!! If anyone can create an awesome inspired costume, Morphine can!! I totally trust her style and instincts, and even though this outfit lacks a belt, it still works perfectly for re-creating this look.

    Baby Doll

I couldn’t find a pair of thigh-high boots with the right design or texture for this particular look, so I settled on a nice pair of WWI Army Girl Garters and Kookie Enya Power Boots.

Re-creating an inspired look is so fun!! And I think that it’s wonderful when an item has been created specifically for that look, but it is also fun to search the grid for things that will substitute well too.

    What I’m Wearing:

Truth – BabyDoll (Swedish) available @ Project FUR Japan
Laqroki – Linnea (Fair) Light Brows – 01
Sweetest Goodbye – Baby Doll (Dark Denim)
WWI – Army Girl Garters (Jet Black v2)
Kookie – Enya Power Boots (Black Wash)
    &
    Breach – 92F
Musashi – Black Rose Katana v4.2

    & POSEUR – BabyCakes 1 Pose

    2k Glam Affair Skins

    2k Glam Affair Skin
    Glam Affair Siu Skin (as-is)

Glam Affair has announced the new Ethereal Essence collection, a collaboration of face skins and body skins with Not Found. This release includes new 2k face skins and body skins. First impressions: the Glam Affair skins are breathtaking. The Not Found body skins are only available for Legacy and Reborn, so Maitreya LaraX wearers like myself will have to wait a while longer to try these.

In my previous post about 2k BoM skins, I truly noticed a difference between 1k and 2k when comparing the same skin. Even the tattoo cosmetics that are 1k benefited from baking with a 2k skin. However, that skin was not designed for 2k, but these skins are, resulting in a noticeable difference in quality.

Of the four new face skins released by Glam Affair, I liked the Siu face best. It’s very pretty, showcasing just enough realistic pores and shine. I am not wearing the brows with this skin, but here it is as-is, without any additional tattoo layers on top. Those who appreciate high-definition and close-up details will undoubtedly love 2k skins! Yes, you can see the pores more, but to me, there’s a balance where it can be done well if the brand doesn’t increase sharpness too much. I am excited about the future of Second Life skins!

It’s interesting to note that Glam Affair has removed Velour tones from their skin line up. Now the skins will come with 20 new Glam Affair tones, so you’ll have to demo all of them to find your new perfect shade. I settled on tone 005, and I found that it’s a good match with some Velour body skins and some The Skinnery body skins.

Will these popular bodies update their tones to support Glam’s new tones? I hope so!

    2k Glam Affair Skin

Previously, I also mentioned that I thought skin brands should provide free updates to 2k, but I no longer feel that way. I think that 2k skins are so high definition that the previous methods of shading and texturing may no longer be the best way to showcase it. It is time to look ahead and move forward. I know I will only purchase 2k skins from now on. Does this render my entire skin collection obsolete? Probably! While the difference may not be drastic, it is certainly noticeable, and as you all know, I appreciate details.

What do you think about the new 2k Glam skins? Are you excited about the next chapter of Second Life? We will begin to see higher quality decor and clothing as well.

    Change is good, right?

During 2007 and 2008, I had one site banner design for each year, and I stuck with it. For some reason I'm completely indecisive this year.. this design will be the THIRD one. I hope you guys like it! It's tropical, with a blue background to mimic water on the beach, and I've even changed my font!

I know, there are too many changes and I really don't like drastic change either, so I re-used my pink font style, and also included the background stars, which I've been using forever! I LOVE THOSE STARS, even though they're sooo easy to do in Photoshop.

So here's to the new banner design, yay!

  • Second Wave Apparel

Second Wave Apparel has just re-released the popular CrossTop sets in White, Red, Pink and Black. These have new textures and each color includes 3 fabric options – Regular, Satin, and Latex. I love wearing it with Bax Coen's Prestige Boots in matching colors (except for Pink, cos they haven't been made yet.. *cries*).

Here's a closer view of the front & back of this outfit. Do you see the little zipper detail on the pants? So sexy!

    I <3 this outfit, I feel like clubbing Gogo-Barbie. Where's my box?!

    What I'm Wearing:

    Gala Phoenix – Petal [Dark] April-Redbud 1
    Exile – Carrie (Harlow) hair
    SWA – Crosstop (all colors)
    AddiCt – Swack! Tat 1
    Shine – Geheimnis necklace
Bax Coen – Prestige Boots (all colors)
