They are now enticing premium residents to log into the app, complete random tasks daily, and each day, only one winner is selected to win a VIP Ticket. If you read the entire blog post, which is somewhat confusing, you deserve some type of prize. With this ticket, you gain the opportunity to attend a live taping of the Spin & Win Event, where you stand a chance to win L$1 million Linden dollars. Statistically, not everyone who spins will win a prize, or perhaps in some magical virtual universe, everyone does win a million Lindens, resulting in 31 new Linden millionaires!

    The odds are decent if you are fortunate enough to receive a VIP Ticket. To win L$1,000,000 Linden dollars, the chance is 2%, while the odds of winning L$10,000 are about 31%. Your chances decrease as the winning amount increases.

    Yesterday, I was having a rather difficult day, and then suddenly Patch Linden announced the release of Thousand Island Tiki Linden homes! This announcement brightened my entire day and possibly my week. Without seeing them first, I upgraded an account to Premium Plus and rolled for a Tiki house.

    As a recovering Games of Home (GoH) addict, I quickly found myself drawn into rolling a theme that I know I won’t keep long-term. I immediately burned through the rolls—only five rolls for Premium Plus members? Could we have unlimited rolls? The next day, Second Life released even more Tiki homes. Although I don’t want them that much, my addiction took over, and I created another alt, spending an additional $30 just to burn another five rolls in a few minutes. As I mentioned, being a recovering GoH addict, two alts is my limit for this theme, and I will likely stay where I am for at least the next 30 days. I know these coastlines will eventually be blocked as more regions are launched to meet the demand.

    Do I like Tiki Linden homes? I think I would appreciate them more if they were available in lighter colors—I am simply not a fan of brown. Additionally, I am not particularly fond of Tiki aesthetics or circular rooms. While I do like the house model in the photo, I don’t think this theme is meant for me. My favorite Linden home themes remain Traditional and Victorian.

    I am grateful for the excitement that GoH provides; it’s fun to explore a new theme. However, I am already looking forward to the Alpine theme, and I hope it’s a winter wonderland. Please please please!

    I’ve been enjoying creating my own simple backgrounds for blog photos. I am particularly obsessed with the new Mae wall panels from Apple Fall. However, if Apple Fall is reading this, I wish they would consider revisiting the Bramble Panel and create a HUD for it. To make the background even cuter, I added some Wildflower Garlands from Dust Bunny.

    Anthology has just opened for another round! I am thrilled about this Bruna purse from Alma. It is modifiable, which allows me to tint the bag in any colors I desire! Additionally, it comes with a nice selection of colors through the HUD. I was particularly excited to tint the gold hardware a little darker to match the gold hearts on my top. This top is the Mia top from Aurica, also available at the event. I truly appreciate items that are modifiable, as it enables me to create a cohesive look. I do not understand the rationale behind “no mod,” but I assume it is because brands believe they can sell more colors or want to maintain control over their aesthetics. Personally, I prefer softer colors, so I value the ability to tint items slightly. Furthermore, it has become quite challenging to match colors now that PBR lighting is the standard. Being able to adjust this little bit of gold on the purse made it work perfectly for me.

    Linden Lab Cracks Down on Content Theft and Focuses on Resident Growth

    I attended today’s Zoom meeting between Linden Lab and content creators/bloggers. The focus was on content theft in Second Life, and I will not bore you with all the details. You can read a recap of the meeting by Salt Peppermint. It appears that Linden Lab will soon revise their Terms of Service to include harsher penalties for any resident caught stealing content. Such penalties may include banning the offending account and all associated alt accounts, removing all their content from the grid, and potentially pursuing legal action.

    Some of the meeting was dedicated to marketing. If any content creators wish to collaborate with Linden Lab by offering perks to residents, they should reach out. If you have an idea that could attract new residents to Second Life or help retain them once they join, Linden Lab is eager to hear about it. They mentioned that MadPea had approached them, but did not disclose whether they are compensating MadPea for providing their games for free to residents or if exposure is considered sufficient payment.

    Regarding other marketing plans, Linden Lab is still assessing the return on investment for their marketing initiatives. They want to ensure that their spending to attract new residents brings in the right demographic—the residents who are willing to spend money. I believe Brad Oberwager (Executive Chairman of Linden Lab) referred to them as “monetarily valuable” residents. Essentially, Second Life aims to attract individuals who join, purchase premium memberships, acquire land, buy items, and continue this cycle. When I first joined the game, I was intrigued by the potential to earn money, but I quickly discovered that my true passion lay in dressing up my pixel doll. I believe the demographic that Second Life wants to target includes young, tech-savvy individuals who enjoy cozy dress-up games. While Second Life can be challenging, it is not difficult for those who learn quickly.

    I left this meeting with the impression that Second Life creators have many ideas—such as a creator verification program—which could make the platform unwelcoming to new content creators or those who wish to create as a hobby rather than as a business. The beauty of Second Life is that anyone can create and sell anything, and implementing a verification system (like a gold star) could divide the community between verified and unverified creators.

    I look forward to attending future Linden meetings and listening to fellow residents express their ideas and concerns. I believe Linden Lab faces a challenging road ahead, as marketing this game and achieving growth are not metrics that can be measured instantly.

    I loooove skins in Second Life. I get a new skin and make it perfect with tattoos. Rinse and repeat. This is how I enjoy playing Second Life. Recently, I tried on the new Coraline skin from Glam Affair, and to my surprise, it’s nearly perfect. Did I still add a bunch of tattoo fixes? Absolutely.

    A blog reader asked me to share some skin details that I recommend, so I’ll do my best to explain my process here. I wear different tattoos for different skins, but generally, I either enhance or de-emphasize certain features. Most of my face tattoos are from Izzie’s, as I own nearly everything from the brand. This allows me to fix anything on a skin to make it suit my preferences. As for body tattoos, it depends on the body I’m wearing. Sometimes I don’t change anything; other times, I add details or remove shading, among other adjustments. You can absolutely mix and match skin details from different brands, as long as you can tint the colors to match.

    What skin tattoos do I always wear?

    FACE

    • Brows – Find any brow tattoo that you like and wear it if the default brows on the skin do not suit your preference. I typically wear white brows and tint it a very light blonde or brown. Then, I enable the HD brows on the LeLutka head and reduce the opacity.
    • Nostril Lighteninger/Highlight – I always lighten my nostrils.
    • Lip concealer – Sometimes the skin doesn’t need it, but most of the time, I feel that it does. I wear a combination of Izzie’s and Cazimi’s Lip Concealer (it’s free) if I want to lighten the area all around.
    • Blush/Contour Remover – I wear this 90% of the time, though not today. When I do wear it, I apply a layer of blush on top.
    • Face Highlights – I sometimes add to or remove highlights, depending on the skin. Izzie’s offers a great Highlight Corrector if you want to reduce shine. Recently, I’ve noticed many skins appearing somewhat flat, so I tend to enhance them. I enjoy adding a touch of highlight to the corners of the eyes, the philtrum, the nose, the forehead, and other areas.
    • Nose Shading Fix – If one side of your nose is heavily shaded, you need this to balance it out. I wear this 90% of the time, but lately, I’ve noticed that skin designers have begun to do this less frequently.
    • Nostril Changer – I use this 90% of the time because many skins have heavily shaded nostrils, which I find unappealing.
    • Ear Fix – Sometimes ears are ugly. Izzie’s has a great ear fix that sits on top of your skin’s ears.
    • Pale lipstick tattoo – I think it makes the HD lipstick look better.
    • Closed Eyes – You need this if you like taking closed eyes photos.

    BODY

    • Neckfix – For a seamless transition between the head skin and body skin. Your body skin will have this layer available, usually for free. If not, you can get a neckfix layer from any brand and tint it to match.
    • Add Creases for hands and feet if you want more details.
    • Butt Crease Changer/Concealer
    • Inner Thigh Shadow Fix

    Today I’m wearing the new Drift hairstyle from Truth. I love a realistic built-in hairline! This looks great in PBR, there’s no opacity issue, and it’s very natural.

    LeLutka 12 Days of Christmas

    It’s officially Christmas in Second Life! The LeLutka 12 Days of Christmas event is the most exciting annual event in Second Life. This event always offers two free LeLutka mesh heads—Camila and Camden, one for female and one for male. A total of 90 brands are participating in this gift-giving event this year. You have from now until December 26th to teleport to all participating brands to collect your gifts.

    As I usually do, I put on the Camila head and began editing my face. I created a new face shape that I liked, but then I noticed a tweet suggesting that Avalon and Camila looked similar. This gave me an idea. I had updated my Avalon shape a few months ago, so I decided to put it on, and with minimal edits, I was looking like Gogo again.

    Avalon is the first LeLutka EvoX mesh head, and now we are on the third C head. These heads are named from A to Z, and I believe the alphabet has completed twice, so we are now on the third C.

    I don’t have the stamina to teleport to all 90 stores, so I’m glad that FabFree has a list of all the stores & gifts posted! November and December in Second Life are full of gifts, and I love these two months the most.

    My outfit is from Vagrant! I used the L$300 credits at Shop & Hop to purchase it. That is another event you should not miss right now, as it is full of gifts as well.

    ReShade with Second Life

    I came across this ReShade (MagicBorder) tutorial on X (Twitter) created by a resident named Kody Black and felt compelled to try it. If you are a fan of engaging photo effects without resorting to third-party editing software like Photoshop, ReShade is the perfect add-on. I previously wrote about ReShade; while the installation and usage can be somewhat challenging, once you master it, the results are remarkable.

    One drawback of ReShade is that it does not allow for high-resolution photos, but you can take display-sized screenshots. Using the Second Life snapshot tool does not capture any of the ReShade effects. Therefore, I believe ReShade is better suited for videos, as it enables you to create eye-catching borders like this and replicate a widescreen video format, along with stunning blurs and lighting effects that are not achievable with the Second Life viewer. I have yet to explore the full range of effects that ReShade offers, but I have been diligently working to learn it for several months.

    I encourage you to give ReShade a try if you are looking to do something different with your Second Life photos.

    The Best Second Life Land is Free

    As I wandered around Windhaven Estate, it occurred to me that the best type of land in Second Life is one that you aren’t paying for. I visited this estate because it was featured in the destination guide, and I stood in front of someone’s rental home for the photo. I didn’t have to pay for or landscape this space, yet I could still enjoy it, and that felt truly amazing. I don’t regret letting my region go, or only keeping Linden Homes, which is one of the most affordable options for virtual living in Second Life.

    I have a deep appreciation for land, and I am often tempted to purchase it and develop something new. However, there are so many beautiful and desolate places in Second Life that are worth experiencing. Why not enjoy those for a while? I can find nearly every type of scenic background I desire simply by visiting the Second Life Destination Guide. I haven’t explored 99% of the regions listed there, and you probably haven’t either.

    Sometimes, instead of launching your own land, it is just delightful to step into other people’s visions. Windhaven is exceptionally beautiful, snowy, and serves as the perfect backdrop for today’s outfit.

    Second Life Mobile App update!

    I haven’t logged into the Second Life mobile app in a while, so I wanted to check if rezzing had improved. I was pleasantly surprised when I logged in with my iPhone 15 Pro and found that my avatar rezzed about 90% of the way. This version is the best that I’ve tried so far, and it rendered my avatar mostly accurately. My dress was all white, but during the 4 minutes I was logged in, it never fully rezzed a piece of the dress. I still find walking and moving difficult, but I can sit fairly well.

    In case you weren’t aware, Juicy Little is my alternate account. Now that the mobile app is open for all residents, I wanted to try an avatar with minimal inventory.

    I am impressed with the mobile app at the moment, but not enough to use it regularly or to encourage anyone to join Second Life on mobile. You don’t have access to inventory, and you can’t make any purchases, so what is the point?

    My phone also became very hot during the 4 minutes I was logged on to film this video. This video consists of 4 minutes of footage sped up to fit into 90 seconds. While rezzing is better, it is still quite slow. Most users with less capable phones can expect even slower rezzing than in my video.

    The new Ariella skin from Glam Affair has me absolutely thrilled! This beauty was featured in the Saturday Sale for just L$75 for the fatpack, and it might still be available at their main store. One of the things I truly appreciate about Glam Affair is their commitment to keeping their blog updated with the latest product releases. While their Flickr is a great resource, it doesn’t always showcase all the new offerings, so having a blog I can rely on is fantastic. Many brands have shifted away from blogs and are constantly hopping between social media platforms, but I value consistency. My main SL shopping catalog has always revolved around Flickr, but it’s nice to have that backup.

    Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Glam Affair’s recent skin releases. The shading is much softer now, and the skins have a beautifully smooth finish that I can’t get enough of.

    On another note, I’ve been wearing the Nysia Aviator Jacket from ISON, which is also part of this weekend’s sales events. Unfortunately, I can’t recall exactly which sale it’s in, as it’s not yet up on their Flickr at the moment I’m writing this. What I love about this jacket is its versatility; you can customize the colors of the jacket, shearling, and sweater. Plus, if you’re feeling a different vibe, you can turn the sweater off and layer it with another shirt underneath. I’m all about roomy jackets that offer mixing and matching possibilities with other pieces in my wardrobe. Happy shopping!
