“Hey Cake! Where’ve you been?” Drawing comics for money and enjoying life. I’m working on a comic book for a mainstream company now, so I’m pretty excited! That series will be released in August. Nationwide. I’m a pro now!

But that’s not why I’m writing this, right? Let’s talk about Linden Homes!

I managed to check these out when the Home and Garden Expo was running, and the preview was pretty cool. So when they were released, I hopped on the chance to snag one. Gogo and I registered around the same time, so I was hoping to get one on the waterfront like she did. Just so you know–homes are randomly assigned! BUT, all of these houses are landscaped very nicely. I didn’t get one on the waterfront, but I still love my house anyway.

This morning I was stalking around Havenhollow as a nazgul. Did you see me? I dressed up my WH Riding horse with some spooky skins and decor, and tossed on a rider’s cloak from Jinx. For fun, I also wore RC Cluster’s new Trick or Treater bucket. I guess my nazgul’s searching for more than just a ring this time.

Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite books, so I’m absolutely pleased to run around SL as a nazgul this week. If you see me, just let me know where Baggins is, okay? I just wanna talk with him for a second. 😂

What I’m Wearing:
NULL – Bento Skeleton Avatar
RC Cluster – Trick or Treat Tricker Bucket (at The Play Room event)
Water Horse Bento Riding Horse (Warmblood)
Jinx – Cult Cloak
Jinx – Unicorn Skull Mask

Isn’t this new head by LAQ cute? This is the Lulu mesh head, which is great for users who want a more doe-eyed look out of their avatar. If you want to see how Gogo looks with this mesh head, just scroll back one entry or click here.

This head is going to be very kind to hand-drawn skin makers! Lulu is expressive and perfect for painted textures. It’s also wonderful for dollish skins and youthful brands. In fact, this head is so nice that I want to make more skins for it!

A note for skin devs: the creator’s package at LAQ’s store contains a lot of helpful UVs to help you make custom looks for this head, including eyelashes and teeth. There’s also a texture map that shows where the lipstick area begins and ends, so you can simply select the section and texture away.

Friend me on my new Flickr account! I made a new one because I forgot the password to my old one, lol.

What I’m Wearing:

LAQ Lulu Bento Head
[ a.e.meth ] – Eris Skin
Exile – Cold Sky
konpeitou – Rose Moon (black lady top, ball choker, jewel tears, and tiara set)
Velvet Whip – Soul Collector Dress (skirt only)
Aii Creations – Single Dragon (RARE/Arcade)

Linden Endowment for the Arts, and Hazing in Second Life

Update 7/6/17: I was contacted by a Linden and told they’re looking into this.

—

This post makes me sad. I don’t want to type it. I’ve been trying to avoid it by settling the matter privately or seeking help from Linden Lab on the downlow. But after several tries to get the office’s attention about what’s going on, I think the only real solution is to make this issue public. They simply aren’t responding because what I have to report doesn’t fit exactly into their usual categories.

Everyone knows I’m about art. It’s what I do for a living irl and I’m very happy with it. After a great bout of years in the art field, I got involved with Linden Endowment for the Arts thinking that would be great experience for joining a real, larger panel for an established museum. Unfortunately, that’s not what I found here.

SL14B is here again! There are tons of sims open to celebrate Second Life’s 14th birthday. This year, I’ve put together a silly exhibit about Second Life if it took place in the Middle Ages.

As you can tell by this picture, I really tried for some of that sweet Monty Python humor. You can grab this art for free, plus other cool art, at the exhibit here.

I’m sick this week! 🙁 Not feeling well, so here’s a quick pic featuring something that looks like it belongs to the The Weeknd’s Party Monster. I love Party Monster because of its story. Much like Phaseone’s remix of Breakin’ Bread, it speaks of someone who starts out in power, but his surroundings quickly overwhelm him and become his undoing.

I can’t seem to remember what this theme is called! I’ve seen it in Macbeth and Scarface as well. Does anyone remember? Leave me a clue in the comments if you can think of what that kind of plot device is. Thanks!

What I’m Wearing:

Truth – Halston
Pink Fuel Doll V2 Skin
Pink Fuel Fresh Lip Tints
RC Cluster – Meditation Circle (candle)
Tres Blah – Ruffled Crop Tank
Neve – Rolled Denim Pant
ROC – Martens Boot
Yumesh – Cross Earrings

Hey! Hope your morning’s good. I’m doing this as a warmup before I launch into all the work I need to get done (before I crash and have a long nap, since I only slept for 4 hours).

How’d I do this picture, you ask? Picmonkey! People look down on photo editors, but you know what? Don’t listen to them. What matters is making something cool and fun to look at. How you created it isn’t relevant and it isn’t anyone’s place to judge you.

Anyway, so what you do to get this effect is load up your picture on Picmonkey, sharpen it, crop it as you like, and then do a few texture overlays. They have a lot of nice ones! Then when you’re ready, apply a black and white photo filter. The filter will allow you to “erase” where the filter applies to the picture. Just brush over it a few times in interesting spots and bam. You’ve got this effect.

Not so hard to do now that you know the secret, right? But it doesn’t make my pictures any less pretty. How I got there is not important. It’s that I got there. Y’know what I mean?

As my design teacher used to say- “It’s just a drawing.” It’s just a picture! Sometimes you have to get out of the way of yourself–that’s when you start to have fun.

What I’m Wearing:
Lelutka Simone head
Pink Fuel Doll v2 Vamp skin
Beusy – June hair
Tentacio & Cureless Galatea Doll Lolita – body, dress (rare), and white onepiece suit
MiaMai – Titania Headpiece Rose
BunBun – Crystal Heart Choker

How To Obtain A Land Grant From LEA

I said I would post again when the Linden Endowment for the Arts’ land grant program was open for another round, so here it is! Round 13 is now accepting applications. Click here to check it out and apply. You have until May 31st to submit your ideas!

In every artists’ life, there’s a slew of grant and residency applications we apply for. Many of those applications face rejections. It’s the game of numbers you run when applying for one seat and a crowd of people who want the position! You can’t always contact the judge before you submit either, so you might not know how to put your best foot forward when pitching a project.

In real life, there are sometimes informational meetings to clear up confusion and allow grant applicants to understand what the judges are looking for. I figure in this case, a blog post might help.

So here’s my advice. I’m separating this into bullet points for do’s and don’ts.

I’m now part of the advisory board for the Linden Endowment for the Arts! The Linden Endowment for the Arts is a user-run program that uses land donations from Linden Labs to foster nonprofit art exhibits and activities. You can read more about LEA here and learn how to apply for the next round of land grants.

My first interaction with LEA was through one of their projects, Art Farm Co-op. I spent the summer of that program’s duration learning and growing with other SL artists, and engaging in a thoughtful and friendly community. After Art Farm’s program ended, I hung around the LEA public sandbox, constantly checking out what other people were creating.

So now I’m on the advisory board! I’m excited to be here and I hope my insight will make LEA even better.

If you see me around the art sandbox, feel free to ask me to host an impromptu sandbox art tour with my SYZM taxi! I’m always up for that.

RC Cluster is opening its new sim this weekend! The fun starts on Friday at 11am SLT. Check event listings here.

I’ll be joining the Salchicha County mod team, so I decided to do so by dressing up as a park ranger. If you ever need a police uniform, I recommend the one from Epia. It has a lot of different texture options!

See you this weekend in the Salchicha sim!

Pink Fuel – Doll Skin 2.0
Rc Cluster – Butterfly Net (at Seasons Story)
Every Pixel Is Art – Police Uniform
TRB Outfitters – Ranger Uniform (name plate, cap, and badge in this pic)
