    Birthday

    Birthday

It’s my birthday! I have successfully completed another orbit around the sun. Yesterday I was admittedly freaking out and wondering if I had accomplished enough this year. I may be lazy when it comes to other areas of my life, but art? I’m one of those overachiever kids who can’t get enough.

I’m at the Blithe sim today, which just opened yesterday for its new winter phase! Both of its sims have been turned into an icy wonderland. It’s absolutely beautiful, so you should definitely teleport there to take a look! It costs 250L to join the sim and access Blithe, but it’s very worth it.

I’m dressed in more amazing clothing from We <3 RP, which opens today! I feel so beautiful in this, like a goddess (feels like a theme this week). Zenith really outdid themselves with this dress and matching sleeves. And Enfant Terrible’s halo headpiece is amazing.

I still have more things to share, including furniture, so please keep your eyes peeled this weekend and next week!

    Birds And Flowers

    It Doesn't Interest Me

These beautiful head branches from Naminoke are amazing! The birds not only are animated on the branches, but they sing, too. You can turn their sounds on and off with a single click as well. This is yet another awesome product you can find at We <3 Roleplay beginning tomorrow.

And yet, still more products from this round I want to show off! Also, thank you to Torley for this photo’s background! If you visit his Flickr, he has lots of textures available for use. Check it out here and download some stuff!

For those who are curious, here’s a low-res gif of the Naminoke birds moving around on their branches:

When I was taking this picture, I teleported my boyfriend in and he walked past me until I spoke. Then he turned around in surprise and said, “Holy shit, I thought you were a painting!” Maybe I should do that as a prank. 😀

    Losing My Religion

    Losing My Religion

The next round of We <3 Roleplay is opening this Friday! There are a lot of gorgeous items out this round (as always, honestly), but two of my favorite ones are this cape from Pucca Firecaster Creations, and this hair from Damselfly. The cape comes with a lot of different options for customization and looks great. Combined with this halo from random.Matter and the hair, I kind of look like a Germanic version of the Holy Mary.

Although I’m an atheist now, that was not always the case for me. During Christmas, a lot of the Catholic imagery I was familiar with as a kid comes flooding back. I miss the smells and sounds of the church, but I can’t really find myself wanting to return if I simply don’t believe anymore. Regardless, Christmas for me means sharing goodwill with everyone, even those who don’t celebrate, and showing people you love that you care for them.

Winter is also my favorite holiday (AND I was born in December–the 4th, in fact! :D), so regardless of anything else I loooove Christmas just because of the seasonal ambiance.

Are you religious? Will you be celebrating any holidays this season? Lemme know in the comments what your traditions are!

ALSO – I was trying to get a Peqe item in for this shoot but it didn’t go with the outfit. I’ll need to do a few more shots of W<3RP stuff with Peqe’s clothing! Until then, please check out her new releases here!

    12 Days of Makeup

    [ a.e.meth ] - Velvet Lipstick (Brights Pack)[ a.e.meth ] - Velvet Lipstick (Dark Pack)
    [ a.e.meth ] - Velvet Lipstick (Fantasy Pack)

Listen, I didn’t get invited to take part of that cool sale on Marketplace with special vendors, and you probably didn’t either. I don’t care. I can make my own sale, you know? Bring the chips and salsa to my own party.

So what do I have? TWELVE DAYS OF MAKEUP.

I put makeup on sale, every single frikkin’ day, for twelve days, and each day that makeup’s 50L. That’s it. BAM isn’t that amazing? Since I started this a little late, these three packs of makeup are on sale for 50L each for both Friday AND Saturday, and plus there’ll be one more makeup pack on sale tomorrow.

I will announce each pack of makeup on Juicybomb until the sale is done. When a makeup goes on sale, grab it then, because there’s only one sale per day! Early bird gets the worm.

All makeup will contain Omega appliers and system tattoos. Good for those of you who just bought those Logo heads, right? Right!

TP to my mainstore to grab the first three packs of makeup. Happy shopping!

    Gemini

    Snapshot.

If you’re like me, you don’t want your SL too perfect. A slight feeling of quirkyness to your online experience is more your style.

So what do you get the girl who wants her virtual world a bit artsy and hand-drawn? Why, the new Gemini skin from [ a.e.meth ], of course!

    [ a.e.meth ] - Gemini Skin

The Gemini skin set from [ a.e.meth ] comes with four system skin shades, PLUS an Omega applier hud. All Omega-friendly heads and bodies will be able to wear this skin.

Please try the demo before buying! You can purchase the full package here or at the mainstore for 250L.

A note: The Gemini skin [edit: we tested it on Catwa and it LOOKS GREAT]. It looks amazing on Lelutka but I haven’t received their dev kit yet (they’re slow to distribute and god knows if I’ll even get picked) It favors Logo heads and looks good on Slink.

I will begin porting this skin to the Kemono bodies next. If you wear another mesh head and want me to try and make an applier for that, please let me know in the comments!

Lipsticks and makeup coming up for all heads now. Thanks!

The Second Life Art World Isn’t Pushing Hard Enough

    Paying It Forward

Listen–we need to talk. You aren’t going to be happy about what I’ve got to say. You probably have your defense ready and that’s great, I’m happy to have this discourse with you, but I would like for you to consider what I’m about to say first.

Yes, I love participating in LEA programs. I can’t praise the idea of allocating sims to artistic endeavors enough. But there’s something going on that I’ve noticed and needs to be addressed. Are you ready? Let’s do this.

There’s way too much self-importance and too little forward thinking in the SL art world. It isn’t groundbreaking enough, and focuses too little on the very culture that makes up this game. It doesn’t warrant the attention it gives itself, and is over-saturated with elements that ignore what the outside art world even celebrates about us.

Second Life is a place of unlimited potential. For a community of creators to miss the train on this again and again is a damn shame. This is a virtual world, where anything is possible, and yet most of the art produced and put on gallery walls are little more than selfies and headshots.

Yes–selfies are a valid point of work. Some artists’ entire careers cover evolving selfies. But this is something our art world is positively bloated with.  When you have an art gallery full of headshots from various artists and this is the best you can present to anyone, you know your industry is in trouble.

Exhibit A: Second Life has missed its own honorary party in the mainstream art and fashion world. When’s the last time anybody pursued some still life shots like this? Or this? That’s a serious callback to SL and our snap-to grids. When’s the last time you saw a virtual body of work like that? This is the kind of aesthetic we’ve seen with vaporwave, with past fashion collections, and nary a fuss was made on the grid about this at all. How? And why? When did we become so blind to what the rest of the world was doing that’s clearly inspired by us?

Exhibit B: Most of what is considered fine art and put on a wall is not fine art. Blogging pictures are great and can still be art, but that’s like visiting a gallery, expecting to see fine art, and seeing a bunch of Annie Leibovitz shots and no paintings. That’s what we have. A lot of Annie Leibovitz and Vogue editorials. Where’s the work commenting on the culture of the game, the administration, making fun of ourselves and talking about how we relate to one another? We can’t call ourselves a proper society until we have art like that.

Exhibit C: The best machinima artists are designers who have never had major participation with a LEA sim, much less the SL art world in general. We need to be trading more notes with each other, and this is one aspect I’m focusing on for the next six weeks to even learn more of myself. Machinima has got to improve, but there are definitely people willing to try that out.

Exhibit D: What’s with the drama? What’s with this? Are you serious? You guys act like thousands of people are going to your shows, because that’s the kind of egos I’m seeing pop up a lot. Tone it down, have a seat, and chill out. Let’s get somewhere better with our overall scene first, and then we can talk about how much bravado we should be sporting.

No, I’m not saying every artist is guilty of these things. But I am saying it’s the majority and it should start to change. Stop and ask yourself–what is this art I’m creating, and why? And then ask how we can push a bit harder to create something more thought-provoking.

    Failure

    Failure

“What failure? Where?” you ask, because the title of this post is certainly intriguing, isn’t it? There’s no failure in this picture. But ah, that’s where I’ve got you. It’s on my face. Look closer.

You probably recognize it–a style of skins I’ve attempted before. I released three in the past, plus one mesh head that didn’t sell too well. Would you like to know something else? There were seven more skin attempts I went through that never saw the light of day. I never showed anyone anything because I was afraid of people laughing at me.

I worked on this one after creating an amalgamation of my failure skins together, blending each face until a new one appeared from the combined Photoshop layers. I kept working on them, and then put them on several different mesh heads to see what spots on the face needed improvement and what didn’t. When I was done, I showed my friends. And many of them liked it! I was shocked because–all that failure. All that failure. What made the “no” finally turn into a “yes”?

Passing that threshold for a lot of people also means crossing a line of fear. You are not used to “yes”. You’re used to “no”, “stop”, “wait just a little longer”, which after a while you accept future notions of rejection and stop putting in so much effort. You accept yourself as less-than, you stop reaching so high. When a “yes” finally appears, it becomes you that is hesitant. What if you proceed only to find another “no” somewhere down the line? What if someone doesn’t like the idea of you doing well and tries to make that happen for you?

If you think I might be using the progress of creating a skin as a larger metaphor, you’re right. I might even be talking about another area of my life right now, a parallel story in rl that I may never tell you.

Life is full of secret skin failures. Each one held a lesson for me in what mistakes I made in the past. And I think it’s funny that by combining them, I created a skin that works. Maybe not everyone would like it, but certainly a lot more than in the past. And that’s a good enough starting point for me. I can build from there.

You can, too, with whatever you’re doing. Sort through those failures. Collate them and think about what lesson each one held. There’s a “yes” if you combine them. It’s all in the arrangement.

    The Volcano

    The Volcano

Just some moody shots as we approach Halloween! Are you already going to Halloween parties in RL or SL? I haven’t yet, but I have decorated my house with lots of pumpkins and string lights! I also think I might attend the official Creepy Crawl on Friday.

From 10-3pm on October 30th, users across the grid will visit selected haunted spots in Second Life while dressed in costume. So far the official haunt list isn’t up yet, but I’m sure it will be by the time the event starts! For more information about the Creepy Crawl, contact Xiola Linden.

    The Volcano

I’m wearing the new Verve skin applier with my Logo head today! I’ll take a better shot for my next blog, but I wanted to show it off now because it’s so gorgeous. I love how there are several shades of red lipstick included in the applier package for me to pick from! You can buy the new skin and appliers here. For those of you with Catwa heads, yes, Verve has made appliers for that too!

    Mini-Coven

    October

So some grid artists and I got together on the Art Co-op sim’s hostel area and began to build a really cool encampment. Anyone can stop by and plop down their addition; mine was this basic shipping container, which I challenged myself to fill appropriately.

How do you like the interior? Since it’s October, I decorated it like a mini-coven area, complete with these cauldrons I picked up from A.D.D. Andel at We <3 Roleplay. I LOVE these! You can change the color of the liquid so it suits whatever you’re doing. It also comes with various options, like cauldrons with steam/without steam, with/without a stirring stick, etc.

I also got this adorable free ghostie from Ohmai, and had to rez it for this picture! It’s a thank-you gift from the store’s owner, Anya Ohmai, for people tuning in to her Twitch stream to learn about 3d modeling. The turnout for classes have been great. It’s awesome to see so many people in Second Life wanting to expand their creative skillsets.

Is it just me, or does everyone think that if we all set out to make a video game and put it on Steam, it would be utterly kickass and feature a ton of female game content creators? We have a lot of women in Second Life who create amazing mesh products every day. Outside of here, the amount of female game creators isn’t so high. If we held a game jam in SL, how awesome would it be to see programmers and artists coming together to make a game? Then you can put the game on Steam or Itch.io and make some money!
