    Banned from EXODI

Why am I banned from EXODI?

I was surprised when I tried to teleport there today and realized that I have been banned from the region.

As far as I know, I have never done anything to deserve this ban. I only visit EXODI when there is a new release or when I want to purchase something. If this is a “personal” ban, then I don’t think I deserve it because I have never done ANYTHING to Ryker Beck.

I’ve known Ryker Beck for a long time, she used to be a renter on Juicy back in 2007 and some of 2009. I’ve always been supportive of her brand/products up until she blew up at me on Plurk over a comment I made over a year ago about something (not concerning her).

And hmm… are you mad about the plurk, or because I pointed out that your last Stephanie skins have seams?

I completely get it — it’s your sim, your business. If you don’t want my patronage, that’s FINE. But I just want to point out that I find it shocking business owners would make personal bans while allowing idiots and copybotters freely on your sim. Lame.

    / UPDATE /

Someone on my friends list IM’d me this:

Name Removed: Wait, you were surprised you got banned from Exodi?
Name Removed: Okay, I’m going to be blunt. If somebody tore apart my stuff in the way you kind of went off on her skins, I’d probably ban you too

For the record, that was one honest (but negative) post compared to the dozens of other POSITIVE posts I have made about Exodi, Genesis and all of Ryker’s past brands. So yes, I am genuinely very surprised by the ban.

    My site sounds like…

I saw Hamlet blog about Code Organ, so I plugged in my url to hear what it thinks my site sounds like and uhhhh… it’s pretty repetitive. My site is repetitive, I guess. Hair, Skins, Hair, Skins, Hair Skins.. that’s what it sounds like!

Now on the other hand, iheartsl.com has awesome music!! So community site = way more interesting than mine.

What does your site sound like?

Po De Arroz, this is not a skin review

I typically receive a lot of requests from “new” brands asking me to look over their skins, give some feedback, and blog them. I have an excellent memory when it comes to something visual – especially skins. So when I receive “new” skins that looks exactly like skins I already have in my inventory, I will investigate. I”m always excited when I receive new skins to blog but sometimes I have to make hard decisions when I don’t think it is legitimate or something is “off”, I will let the creator know before blogging about it.

In this situation, I have contacted everyone involved so I want to share with you guys a lil’ story.

Here’s some history, so the rest will make more sense.

Last year, I was approached by Guy Seiling to check out some Maeve skins created by her friend, Mae Moriarty. When I tried on Maeve skins, I loved it. So I agreed to blog it on my site. The Maeve update group sent out a preview skin (so some of you might have it) but then, for some vague reason, the shop was closed before it opened and the Maeve skins never went on sale. I have not heard anything about Maeve or Mae Moriarty since.

So, fast forward to today. Guy Seiling approached me to blog skins from her new brand, Po De Arroz. When I tried on Po De Arroz, I loved it! I told Guy it was excellent, and that people would love it but when I looked closely at the body and the face, I thought the face was a lot like Maeve.

    Skin

When I took a closer look at the body, I noticed that it was *A LOT* like Maeve, with some bits of older Minnu Palen skins mixed into it. Most noticeably, the belly button and the vag area. If you click on the full-size image, you’ll be able to see the comparison better.

    Skin

Here is a picture of the Maeve legs & feet area, which is identical to Po De Arroz.

Now, this leads me to one conclusion: Maeve and Po De Arroz were created by the same person.

I asked Guy Seiling if she thought Po De Arroz skins looked similar to Maeve and she said no. I also told her that I thought some bits of Po De Arroz resembled older Minnu skins. If anybody reads my blog regularly, you know that I love Minnu skins. I can usually name the line, the order they were released, and pretty much everything about Minnu skins — I’m a Minnu skins addict, and above all, a skins addict. So I trust my judgment on this.

I think that Guy has done great work, and I told her this, that the Po De Arroz had a gorgeous face and a lot of you guys would love it. BUT, after seeing all these things.. and Guy not admitting to be Maeve, I am a bit disappointed.

    That is all.

Check out Po De Arroz in-world.

For people that are interested, I plan on showing you guys the full range of Po De Arroz skins, but I will say this, buyer’s beware.

I like Oldbie brands, just not outdated

Someone left a comment on my blog about hair and I thought I would answer it, cos actually it’s a very good question!!

Gogo, you always post a bunch of hair from truth, exile, lamb and fri.day…why dont you try other stores…i dont know why the whole of sl fashionista brigade is stuck on hair thats more ahem ‘popular’…granted the fact that these stores do actually have great hair textures and all…but really what about a little bit of oldies like analog dog, jolie femme, bishwear, cake, shop sue, magika and i mean stores that make hair actually look like hair?

Hi Anon! You’re totally right, I do wear Exile, Truth, LeLutka, Friday and a few other brands more than others because I love their Blonde textures and their hairstyles. These brands are undeniably good, and they have mass appeal.

In the past, I have worn ALL of the other oldbie brands that you have mentioned in your comment. I still wear Cake hair from time to time, and also go back to “oldbie” brands when they release new stuff. Cake, for example, has evolved and stayed pretty up-to-date. I won’t wear my very old Cake hairstyles (3 yrs old) but I will wear the newer releases because Stumbelina has incorporated sculpts and updated her textures. That’s the key for me, and I think for a lot of people in SL, especially fashion bloggers. We like NEW. We want our hair to match our skins. Skins have drastically improved over the past years and so, we want our hair to look just as good. If an oldbie brand does not evolve, it just becomes well, old.. and outdated.

I’m not hating on any of the brands you’ve mentioned in particular.. just saying, perhaps you don’t see them featured more prominently is because they just don’t look that great. People want VALUE for their money. Why buy “new” hair that looks outdated from brands that have not evolved?

Btw, I have a lot of oldbie brands in my inventory, some I haven’t worn in years. I’m just too lazy to box them up and too sentimental to delete them.

I’ve deleted a few hair brands from my inventory cos they’re too old but I’ve kept almost everything that I might still wear from time to time.

    Second Life 2.0 Beta Viewer

Download the Second Life 2.0 Beta Viewer here

I am test driving the new interface & new layers!! After how many years of griping about not having an extra tattoo layers to wear over our skin/clothes, Linden Lab has finally created one. There’s also an ALPHA layer!! Oh, and my dear little fashionista heart is so happy there’s a WEARING tab that lists everything I’m wearing. This will making doing outfit credits SO much easier! I LOVE YOU LINDEN LAB.

This viewer will take some time to get used to, but it’s better to start getting used to it now, before they roll out the official version. I like what I’m seeing so far! <3

    Second Life 2.0 viewer rocks!

I made a ‘viva la juicy’ tattoo to test out the layer. It works awesome!! If only I could make better tattoos, lol!

In addition to tattoos, creative residents can also try adding stuff to their skins like beauty marks, extra makeup, etc. I think this will be AMAZING, I can’t wait to see what designers come up with!

    I hate shine

    Issue

    1. This is the CherryGirl CamicTunic (in Pink) that I purchased on February 12th, 2010. When I wore it, I noticed right away that the skirt prim did not match the shirt texture at all. At first glance, I thought it might have  been tinted “gray” so I sent the creator, kumichan Koba, an IM in-world asking her to un-tint the skirt.

    2. Kumichan sent me an updated skirt, but she made it FULL-BRIGHT, which actually looks worse than how it was originally. The skirt still doesn’t match the top texture.

At this point, I thought that maybe her texture was the problem, or that she’s not understanding my concern. I’ve sent her pictures and even asked my friend to translate my note card into Japanese for me. I felt kind of annoyed/defeated when I didn’t get a response after waiting for nearly two weeks.

Today I went to find the CamiTunic to delete it from my inventory when I found another one just like it.. but in White!

    3. This is the CamiTunic in White that I had purchased back in May 25th, 2009. The skirt didn’t match at all, but it was MOD, so I looked in the properties and discovered that the prims were not tinted gray at all, but it was set to LOW SHINE.

You guys know I think Full-Bright is the devil right? Well, shine is it’s cousin! EWW.

So then I adjusted the shininess to none and voila!

    4. A perfectly matching CamiTunic dress.

But seriously, why was the Pink version NO MOD, and why didn’t the creator replace mine with a no-shine version. LANGUAGE BARRIERS MAKES ME SAD! I didn’t know that it was set to ‘shine’, I had assumed that it was tinted gray like MOST prims before Windlight.

Anyways.. if someone can speak Japanese, can you ask Kumichan to send me a new skirt, thanks! 🙂

I might delete the Pink CamiTunic soon if I don’t get a replacement I can use.

    RL gender disclosure

I have many friends who choose to play an avatar that’s the opposite of their gender IRL. However, NONE of them carry out romantic relationships without informing their SL partner first, of their RL gender. I think that’s the best way to be, even if your partner is infatuated with your SL pixels, they deserve to know. Let them decide if they want to carry on the relationship, don’t decide for them. Truth is best, don’t you think?

  • Giving honest feedback

I don’t like to give feedback unless it’s to very close friends who I know won’t take offense when I say, “What’s up with your skin tone? Why is it orange? Uhh your lips are uneven. I hate the brows… bla bla bla.”

    I’m BRUTAL.

A lot of people ask me for feedback on new skins but I find it very hard to give honest feedback (like I said, I only reserve those for very close friends), because I don’t want to be the “mean critical one.” I’ve had instances in the past where people have said, “hey Gogo! Why are you such a bitch! You can’t even make skins, what gives you the right to tear people dowwwwwwwnn!” Well, they asked for it. And even if they didn’t, it’s for sale. I’m a customer, I can comment.

I find that honest feedback is very very hard to give. Many people think they’re giving honest feedback when they’re just holding back.

    I hold back.

Unless I’ve known you for awhile and I know that you really want to improve (sell more).

I cringe whenever I see people saying “aww it’s gorgeous! I love it! SO SO HOT” when the item is obviously not? I know that my preference for something may not always be everyone’s preference, but generally MOST people can agree on what is fug, and what is not.

If you love your friends, give honest feedback.

    I like palm trees

    Juicy sim

I told Khea this morning that I am changing all the palm trees on Juicy sim to new palms from Heart Garden.

She said… I hate palm trees! They’re so kitschy and tacky! This is why I would never go to Bali (this is the Aussie equivalent of Hawaii).

So I said, whatever, don’t hate! LOL

5 hours later.. I get an offline:

Khea: omg the palms look sooooo good
    Khea: I cant believe it
    Kheas: lol
    Khea: they are nice

    I TOLD YOU SO!

So I wrote a response back: OH, what ever happened to TACKY? TACKY PALMS!! haha you changed your tune 😛 I will go plant you some!

There you go guys. I have converted another palm-hater into a future palm lover. Look for palm trees on MALT sim soon (maybe! lol).
